Steel leggings are the steel leggings, made by smithing iron leggings with steel alloy.

The upgrade needs no template. Enchantments on the iron item carry over; where both items have the same enchantment, the higher level is kept.[1]

Usage

Armor

They give 5 armor, 1 armor toughness and 10% knockback resistance, with 1000 durability. The Blast Protection III is an intrinsic: it is stored on the item and applied when the item enters a player's inventory.[2]

Steel armor has 1000 durability per piece, armor toughness 1 and knockback resistance, and each piece carries Blast Protection. The full set gives 16 armor, 4 toughness, 50% knockback resistance and Blast Protection totalling 11 levels. The 1.10 release notes advise against wearing it in the Abbey: "Blast resistance makes the dungeon boring."

Repairing

They can be repaired in an anvil with iron ingots. The pack resets repair costs to zero, so they can be repaired indefinitely; see Repairing.

They keep the iron item ID, so a blast furnace melts them back into a single iron ingot and the steel alloy is lost.

Notes

  • The hand-written tooltip hides the real attributes and shows knockback resistance 1 (real value 0.1).[3]

1.02 Steel alloy takes less time to blast.
1.03 Steel alloy is now blasted from carbon-rich iron.
1.12.1-alpha Smithing no longer takes an ingot in the template slot, and the upgrade keeps the base item's enchantments. Added the "Repaired with" tooltip.
1.12.2 Moved to the matcha namespace; older copies can be updated with /trigger update_item.
