Enchanting

This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Enchanting, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.
This article is about the enchanting system. For the list of enchantments, see Enchantment.

Enchanting in Matcha Flavoured is done by crafting. The enchanting table cannot be crafted and experience is not spent on random enchantments. Instead, the player crafts a Hell-Bound Book and combines it with other items to make a blessing, an enchanted book with fixed enchantments, then applies it to equipment with an anvil.

Design

The developer's introduction video describes enchantments as crafted, with the most wanted enchantments the hardest to get:

Enchantments are no longer random or use XP to receive. Instead, you craft them, and the rarest, most difficult enchantments to obtain [are] efficiency, unbreaking, protection, sharpness, and mending.[1]

Every magic recipe depends on Estus Ash, Benzene and Stabilized Estus, and the strongest blessings also need a Divine Fragment or a Divine Favor. Divine fragments come from breaking spawners and defeating powerful mobs, so the pack gives the player a reason to break spawners rather than build mob grinders on them.[2]

Crafting enchantments

Hell-Bound Books

Main article: Hell-Bound Book

Every blessing starts from a Hell-Bound Book, the pack's name for the enchanted book. It is crafted from a book, a piece of Stabilized Estus and a Benzene, and stacks to 64.[3] The path to the first book runs through several magic ingredients:

  1. Kill undead mobs for Raw Estus (which turns into Estus Ash when picked up) or Estus Ash directly.
  2. Craft Benzene from a Glass Bottle, three Hellspore and a Sulfur Chunk.
  3. Kill an Enderman for a Stable Void.
  4. Craft Stabilized Estus from seven Estus Ash, a Benzene and a Stable Void.
  5. Craft the Hell-Bound Book from a book, a Stabilized Estus and a Benzene.

Blessings

Main article: Blessing

A blessing is crafted by surrounding a Hell-Bound Book with themed ingredients. Each of the 23 blessing recipes produces a book with a fixed set of enchantments at fixed levels, named as a prayer or elegy to a deity or mythological figure. The table below lists them all.

Ofuda

The Mouthpiece (the pack's librarian) trades an Ofuda, an enchanted book with its own prayer, for each sacred text plus one or two Crystal Hearts. Apart from loot, these are the only source of Protection and Sharpness, and the only source of Efficiency and Mending besides the Prayer of Daedalus and the Prayer of Lu Ban.[4]

Apprentice The Avesta + Crystal Heart Prayer of The God-King Efficiency II, Unbreaking I
Apprentice The Quran + Crystal Heart Prayer of The Prophet Protection II
Apprentice The Tanakh + Crystal Heart Prayer of Exodus Loyalty III, Trailblaze III, Power II

Other sources

Enchantments can still be found rather than crafted:

  • Chest loot. Many vanilla chest loot tables still contain books with random enchantments, which become Hell-Bound Books. These come from dungeons, mineshafts, desert and jungle pyramids, strongholds, woodland mansions, large ocean ruins and ancient cities, and fishing treasure. Ancient cities also contain Swift Sneak books, and bastions and piglin bartering give Soul Speed books. Trial chamber reward vaults contain books with one of Sharpness, Bane of Arthropods, Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Feather Falling, Riptide, Loyalty, Channeling, Impaling or Mending.[5] Random books cannot roll the pack's own enchantments, and Fortune cannot roll above level I.
  • Enchanted equipment. Some equipment comes with enchantments: Sturdy Leather Boots are crafted with Projectile Protection II, Feather Falling II and Trailblaze I, the Cleaver sold by the Cook has Slaughter and Looting II, the Hatchet sold by the Lumberjack has Bloodrage, the Hepatizon Sword is smithed with Riposte II, and iron swords in Abbey chests carry Anemos.
  • Ominous vaults. Ominous trial chamber vaults roll a book from the #minecraft:in_enchanting_table tag, which the pack reduces to curses only, so these books always hold Curse of Binding or Curse of Vanishing.[6][7]

Applying enchantments

Main article: Anvil

Blessings are applied like any enchanted book: combine the item and the book in an anvil. The pack lowers the anvil cost multiplier of every vanilla enchantment to 1, the lowest value, so combining books costs few levels.[8] The pack's own enchantments have an anvil cost of 0, except Frost Protection and Riposte (2).

Experience

The player cannot keep experience. Every tick, the pack sets the experience level and points of each player to 0.[9] After a player opens an anvil, the next change to their inventory gives them 100 levels and exempts them from the reset until a shared 31-second timer runs out, so anvil work never lacks levels.[10][11] The timer restarts whenever any player's inventory changes, and the check that ends the exemption applies to all players at once.

Repair cost

Whenever the player's inventory changes, every item in the main inventory and hotbar has its prior-work penalty (repair cost) reset to 0, so the penalty never builds up with repeated anvil use.[12] This part of the pack is based on MiziraGamez's "Repair Cost Remover" data pack.[13]

Exclusivity

Besides the vanilla rules, the pack adds some incompatibilities:

  • Silk Touch, Fortune and the electrum tool intrinsic are mutually exclusive.[14] The adamant tool intrinsic is exclusive with Silk Touch.[15]
  • Slaughter is exclusive with the vanilla damage enchantments (Sharpness, Smite, Bane of Arthropods, Impaling, Density and Breach).
  • The intrinsic enchantments of alloy equipment are exclusive with the other intrinsics for the same kind of item: the armor intrinsics (adamant, electrum, shakudo and the shakudo elytra) with each other, and the weapon intrinsics (adamant, shakudo and the four Warding levels) with each other.[16][17]

Enchanting table

The enchanting table's crafting recipe is removed.[18] The pack also replaces the #minecraft:in_enchanting_table tag with curses only, so a table obtained in other ways can only offer Curse of Binding or Curse of Vanishing.[19] Breaking an enchanting table drops 2 diamonds, 4 obsidian and a Hell-Bound Book with no enchantments.[20]

Removing enchantments

The grindstone works as in vanilla, removing all non-curse enchantments. Because experience is reset every tick, the experience it gives back is lost.

History

0.4-alpha Prayer of Prometheus now gives Unbreaking II.
0.5-alpha Added Frost Protection and textures for all blessings. The Prayer of Icarus now gives Feather Falling II.
0.6-alpha Experience is hidden unless the player interacts with an anvil.[21]
1.10 Removed the enchanting table and table enchanting.[22] The anvil experience timer increased from 15 to 30 seconds and the levels given from 50 to 100. Added the Ofuda trades for The Tanakh and The Quran. Changed the recipes of the Prayer of The Light, the Prayer of Man and the Prayer of Aeolus.
1.12.1-alpha Added the Prayer of Midas. Fortune is capped at level I.
1.12.2 Feather Falling buffed. Zephyr reworked into three levels. Ofuda trades now require Crystal Hearts.
