Matcha Flavoured 1.12.9, "Poplar Release", is the current version of Matcha Flavoured, published on October 31, 2026, eight days after 1.12.8-beta. It is the full release of the "Poplar Drop" port to Minecraft 26.3, which had been tested as 1.12.6-alpha, 1.12.7-beta and 1.12.8-beta, and it replaces 1.12.5, for 26.2, as the newest full release. Its pack.mcmeta files report the version as "1.12.9 for 26.3", the internal version number is 1129, and the chat message shown when the pack loads now names the right version (in 1.12.8-beta it still said 1.12.7).[1][2][3]
The release notes open by saying that the pack is "on break". The developer thanks the players and the people helping on GitHub, and writes that they will not add any more features for some time. They do plan to port the pack when the next Minecraft drop comes out, and then to redo the freezing water effect, because the game now has a freezing effect; they write that this should be the only real change until they are ready to add more, and that they will make a new video when more is being added.[4] For a full account of what the Poplar Drop changed, the notes point to the earlier alphas and betas, and they say that future versions will have a "recap" changelog of everything added since the previous release.[5] The notes also explain the pack's version numbers.
The changes below are those since 1.12.8-beta.
Changes
Hero of the Village gifts
- The pack has its own gift loot table for every villager profession, for baby villagers and for unemployed villagers, replacing all of the game's. Each profession gives things that suit the pack: for example, the farmer gives seeds, crops, mushrooms and fertilized eggs, the fisherman fish, buckets of fish and fishing rods, the fletcher arrows including the pack's own, the mason bulk blocks, the shepherd wool, the toolsmith plain earrings, the weaponsmith copper tools and ingots, and the butcher the pack's cooked foods.[6][7][8][9]
- Pumpkin pie and the stone axe, hoe, pickaxe and shovel came only from the game's gift tables, which the pack had left in place; none of them can be crafted in the pack. With those tables replaced, they can no longer be obtained in survival. The toolsmith's stone tools had been on the pack's list of low-priority bugs (see Upcoming features).
- The white fertilized egg in the farmer's gift has no name or model in the resource pack (see Known bugs).
Fishing
- The climate tables moved out of the main fishing table into a table of their own,
gameplay/fishing/biomes. The main table still gives 85% fish, 10% junk and 5% treasure in open water before any Luck of the Sea, but the qualities changed: fish +1 instead of −1, treasure +1 instead of +2, junk still −2. With Luck of the Sea III, open-water catches are now 4% junk, 8% treasure and 88% fish, instead of about 4%, 11% and 85%.[10][11][12] - In the treasure table every weight was tripled except the goat horn's and the chest of buried treasure's, which kept theirs. Those two are therefore about a third as likely as before: without Luck of the Sea, the goat horn falls from 8.2% to 2.9% of treasure catches, and the chest from 1.6% to 0.6%.[13]
- Guardians and elder guardians roll the new biome table instead of the whole fishing table, so they drop only fish instead of fish or junk.[14][15][16]
Recipes
- Two slabs craft back into a block for cobbled deepslate, poplar planks, all 16 colors of wool and all 16 colors of concrete. Picking up cobbled deepslate or poplar planks unlocks their recipes.[17][18][19]
- Polished deepslate can be fired from deepslate in the mud kiln; it can still be crafted as before.[20][21]
- Poplar logs, poplar wood and stripped poplar wood can be cut into stripped poplar logs and stripped poplar wood in the stonecutter, like the other woods.[22]
- The pack's stonecutter recipes for concrete slabs and stairs were removed; Minecraft 26.3 has its own. The release notes explain: "I didn't think Mojang would let you so I added them before the release".[23]
Blessings
- Crafting the Hell-Bound Book (the advancement "Unholy Knowledge") unlocks the recipes of all 23 blessings.[24][25]
- Apocrypha is granted for crafting any of the 23 blessings, and "Demonic Emissary" requires all 23, including the six prayers that 1.12.8-beta had left out. See Advancements.[26][27][28]
Mobs and the Wither
- A Wither built where it isn't allowed is teleported below the world and killed about a second after it is summoned, while it is still charging up, so its amalgamated pith is lost, and its three wither skeleton skulls are dropped where it stood. Before, the pack deleted dropped amalgamated piths only while some player stood where a Wither couldn't be summoned. The warning is sent only to players within 100 blocks, instead of to everyone.[29][30][31]
- When a husk spawns riding a camel husk outside a desert, the pack now tries to remove the camel husk too. The release notes say camel husks no longer spawn outside deserts, but the command moves the old husk instead, so the camel husk stays (see Known bugs).[32][33]
- Using a spawn egg on a spawner still destroys every spawner and trial spawner within 16 blocks, but deals 1 damage instead of 20, so it no longer kills the player: "Being naughty no longer kills you".[34][35]
- The Wither effect's functions were reorganized; how it works is unchanged.[36]
Items and mechanics
- Bedrock Busters also break trial spawners and vaults, and several lit at once each clear their own area; before, only one of them did.[37][38][39]
- Eating a slice of cake is detected by an advancement when a player uses a cake, instead of by checking every player's cake statistic each tick. The effects are the same, but the last slice of a cake no longer gives them, because the cake is gone by the time the advancement checks the block. The release notes list "Cake can sometimes not be eaten" as an expected issue (see Known bugs).[40][41][42]
- Villagers that harvest tomatoes get 2 tomatoes and 2 tomato seeds, so they can replant them.[43][44]
- The farmer's bundles changed: the carrots in the seed bundle and the sweet berries and glow berries in the exotic seed bundle are the pack's healing versions, with their lore, and the mushy bundle holds 16 each of red mushrooms, brown mushrooms, glow lichen and shelf mushrooms instead of 21 each of the first three. See Bundles.[45][46][47]
- The item updater no longer turns plain red bundles into geothermal bundles: it recognizes the geothermal bundle by its name instead of by its base item.[48][49][50]
Resource pack
- The text shader that hid the experience level is gone. The language files blank the level number and the anvil's "Enchantment Cost" line instead.[51][52]
- The last growth stages of wheat and carrots, glow lichen on the ground and potted bamboo are shaded like the top of a block instead of not shaded at all.[53][54]
- The splash text "I don't know if I'm Gen Z or a Millennial!" was removed (the developer writes that they turned out to be Gen Z), and "Woke and Gay!" was added.[55]
Credits
The release notes credit HapppySpud with the guardian drops, the farmer trades, the Wither spawn fixes and skull refund, the language-file replacement for the shader, the villager gifts, the Wither effect cleanup and the Bedrock Buster improvements; EastMonster with the crop shading; galact1cdev with the red bundle fix; and UncoiledYew19 with the slab recipes and the poplar stonecutter recipes.[56] They also credit HapppySpud with keeping the Hard-difficulty check out of hardcore worlds, which 1.12.8-beta already did.
