Copper equipment
Copper equipment is the second tier of tools, weapons and armor, between wood and iron, and the base for the shakudo and hepatizon alloys.
Obtaining
Copper equipment is crafted from copper ingots, which are smelted from raw copper in a mud kiln or blast furnace; an oven is not hot enough.[1] Copper also makes the copper dolabra, copper mattock, copper shears and copper compass.
The developer wants players to spend time in the copper age: the 1.10 notes say "players who just start the world have no need for that much iron, I want them caving and using copper tools at first."Matcha Flavoured 1.10 release notes

Mining
The copper pickaxe mines iron (hematite) and silver, but cannot get drops from diamond ore, native gold or obsidian.[2]
Warding
Undead mobs wearing copper armor are immune to Warding; only warding level 4 (the electrum set bonus) and warding stones bypass this.
