Shears Obtaining Durability Repair Notes
Copper Shears Copper Shears Crafted from 2 copper ingots 300 Copper ingots
Iron Shears Iron Shears Crafted from 2 iron ingots 500 — Vanilla shears with 500 durability instead of 238
Steel Shears Steel Shears Iron shears + steel alloy at a smithing table 3000 Iron ingots
Shepherd's Shears Shepherd's Shears Sold by the shepherd 3000 Blocks of copper Looting III

Usage

Shears work as in vanilla, and all shears and hoes can mine glow lichen. Looting is allowed on shears; sheep shearing tables add up to 3 extra wool per Looting level to each of the one to three wool drops.[1][2]

Notes

  • The canonical loot table for steel shears gives a stone shovel with steel shears components, not shears.[3]

History

1.12.1-alpha Smithing steel shears grants the "Sturdy Steel" advancement. All shears can mine glow lichen.
1.12.3 Shepherd's shears are repaired with blocks of copper, as their tooltip says, instead of iron nuggets or iron ingots.
