The smithing upgrade template (in-game name Smithing Template, described as "Smithing Upgrade Template") replaces the netherite upgrade. It is needed to upgrade mattocks, dolabras and claymores, and for the vanilla adamant horse and nautilus armor recipes.[1] The silver sword and warding shield take silver bullion in the template slot instead.[2]

Obtaining

Crafted from 7 iron ingots, a steel alloy and a deepslate, cobbled deepslate or blackstone block.[3] Obtaining it grants Upgrades.
