A steel mattock is the steel mattock, made by smithing an iron hoe (or iron mattock) with steel alloy and a smithing upgrade template.

This upgrade needs a smithing upgrade template in the template slot; without one, the same iron hoe and alloy make a steel hoe. Enchantments on the base item carry over.
Usage
Mining
It breaks shovel and hoe blocks at speed 7 and has 3000 durability. Hoes in Matcha Flavoured also break wool, carpets, glow lichen and phosphor lamps quickly.[1]
Combat
It deals 1 ( × 0.5) damage at an attack speed of 2. Steel tools reuse the removed stone tools' item IDs, so where the item sets no attack attributes of its own it keeps the stone tool's values.
Repairing
It can be repaired in an anvil with iron ingots. The pack resets repair costs to zero, so it can be repaired indefinitely; see Repairing.
Notes
- The hand-written tooltip hides the real attributes and shows attack speed 3 (real value 2).[2]
