Obtaining
Natural generation
In mountain biomes and the deep dark the vanilla emerald feature runs at 50 attempts per chunk (vanilla 100), plus 5 deep attempts. Stony peaks get only the 50 attempts, the beach biome and the sulfur caves get none, and every other overworld biome gets 3 deep attempts. Deep veins follow a triangle from y=16 down to the world bottom, most common at the bottom.[1]
Breaking
Mined with a pickaxe (see Tools#Mining levels), it drops 1 raw silver, affected by Fortune and electrum; adamant tools drop silver bullion. Silk Touch drops the block.[2]
