Matcha Flavoured 1.12.3, "Death, Worldgen, & UX", is a version of Matcha Flavoured, published on October 2, 2026. It is the first full release since 1.12. The developer describes it as "not a content-filled, crazy update": it is about player experience, progression and polishing the permanent death system, and it rolls up the changes of 1.12.1-alpha and 1.12.2-beta.[1]

The same day, the pack was also published as a Minecraft 26.3 port titled "Port to 26.3", marked alpha. The developer says everything broke when 26.3 came out (biomes, loot tables, advancements, recipes and item modifiers), that Fpekal did most of the porting work, and that 26.3 is the version they will keep working on, so bugs are expected.[2] The 26.3 port's pack.mcmeta reports the version as "1.12.3 for 26.3".[3] Its hotfix, 1.12.4, was released for 26.2 only; content found only in the 26.3 port is described on this wiki as upcoming.

Updating

Main article: Updating items

Items made in earlier versions can appear broken after the namespace move of 1.12.2-beta. The notes repeat the remedies: hold the item and run /trigger update_item; or give the item the right model by hand with a /data merge entity command on a thrown copy; or put the old resource pack under the new one. The datapack and resource pack are separate downloads, so both must be updated, and villagers have to be reset with an Amnestic.[4]

Major additions and changes

  • Advancements were reworked: some reward obols or hearts, and others lower the minimum number of hearts.
  • Crystal hearts are used by the player instead of forced on them.
  • The Wither effect is much more dangerous, and the Wither can only be spawned on the surface of the overworld. Wither Skeleton feet are no longer as easy to get.
  • Mobs no longer drop obols. Mobs from spawners drop no loot at all, which the developer says may be reverted in the planned structure update.
  • Husks look more different from zombies, with less health and slightly faster movement.
  • Smithing was simplified: adamant was overhauled and electrum polished; neither burns and both are safe from piglins; Fortune III can only come from electrum; equipment repair is easier to understand; and smithing a piece of gear with enchantments keeps them (HapppySpud).
  • More foods, one with a new effect.
  • Amnestics also clear a villager's favorite food. Aura and other mechanics were reworked; see their pages.

World generation

  • Silver generates rarely in every biome, twice as often in mountain biomes and the deep dark (more the deeper it is), and less often at high elevation than before.
  • Quartz generates much higher and in much greater amounts.
  • Hellspore (nether wart) generates in nether wastes and soul sand valleys, so fortresses are only needed for wither skeletons and loot.
  • Beaches generate blue orchids and cornflowers.
  • The dappled forest's canopy moved up and is now closed, inspired by Conure's video of the same concept. This is only in the 26.3 alpha: the dappled forest is a Minecraft 26.3 biome.
  • Swamps were made swampier, with a new tree type, shelf mushrooms and bushes. This is also only in the 26.3 alpha; the 26.2 release's swamps are unchanged from 1.12.2.[5][6] See Upcoming features.

Technical changes

  • Everything moved into the matcha namespace, with some exceptions, and the data and resource pack were split into two downloads.
  • More tooltips are translatable. Some items were still missed, because a datapack must repeat an item in many places (a crystal heart is in loot tables, several villager trades and a recipe).
  • The developer wants to move all non-vanilla items into the matcha namespace using item models over vanilla items, as was done for spawn eggs, and eventually move alloys to spawn eggs.
  • The Abbey and Papal Outpost were not moved over yet; they are for a planned structure update. Chest, spawner and similar loot tables are unfinished, and village loot tables are empty because everything broke in 26.3; the developer plans to add them back, nerfed, since villages "were never meant to be a part of this pack".[7] This applies to the 26.3 alpha; the 26.2 release kept its village loot tables.[8]

Credits

The release notes credit, in addition to the earlier versions: Hashiru (optimisations), NamlessJU (code, translations), Nat (translation lead), Imtlx (the new Angler's Almanac, Fishing sounds, translation), Vee Vaicekauskas (background music), DeBlezyBestie (music discs), Bingbongbooper (food ideas), HapppySpud, Linkershim, Pepurion, Fayranchia, ReinIsNOTaDev, Fpekal (a large part of the 26.3 port), FloofShade, EastMonster, Voxybuns, milo256 and the translation volunteers.

Changes after 1.12.2-beta

The fixes and additions listed under "Post-release fixes" on the 1.12.2-beta page (the favorite food trade, invisible steel armor, the Wither effect shared between players, empty bottles, and more) are part of this release. Individual pages list what else changed under their History headings.

Trivia

  • The developer says they are exhausted and expects updates to slow down, with a break to work on videos.[9]
