A steel shovel is the steel shovel, made by smithing an iron shovel with steel alloy.

The upgrade needs no template. Enchantments on the iron item carry over; where both items have the same enchantment, the higher level is kept.[1]
Usage
Digging
It digs at speed 8, the same as the iron shovel, but has 3000 durability instead of 500. It collects snowballs from snow.
Combat
It deals 3.5 ( × 1.75) damage at an attack speed of 1, one less than the iron shovel. Steel tools reuse the removed stone tools' item IDs, so where the item sets no attack attributes of its own it keeps the stone tool's values.
Repairing
It can be repaired in an anvil with iron ingots. The pack resets repair costs to zero, so it can be repaired indefinitely; see Repairing.
Notes
- The hand-written tooltip hides the real attributes and shows attack damage 4.5 (real value 3.5).[2]
