Dolabra

A dolabra is a hybrid tool that works as both a pickaxe and an axe, mining more slowly than a pickaxe or axe of the same tier. Its harvesting rules do not always match the pickaxe of its tier: several dolabras can mine obsidian that the matching pickaxe cannot (see below).

Obtaining

Copper, iron and diamond dolabras are crafted (three ingots on top, one below on the left, two sticks). Alloy dolabras are smithed from an axe or dolabra of the base tier with the alloy and a smithing upgrade template. Dolabras use axe item IDs, so they strip logs like axes.

Usage

• The copper dolabra has special rules: no drops from diamond ore or sulfur ores, but it mines native gold and obsidian with drops, unlike the copper pickaxe.
• The iron, steel, shakudo and hepatizon dolabras have no obsidian rule.
• Diamond (35), electrum and adamant (55) dolabras mine obsidian quickly.

Design

The 1.12.2 notes announce a shift: "Dolabras are shifting from being treated as an Axe (weapon), Axe (tool), and Pickaxe hyrbid to an Axe (tool) and Pickaxe hyrbid. So damage will go down for all of them, weapon-based enchants removed, and tool-based enchants improved."Matcha Flavoured 1.12.2 release notes
