Matcha Flavoured 1.03, "Steel, Electrum, and Trial Chambers", is a release of Matcha Flavoured, published on July 27, 2026. It added carbon-rich iron as a step in making steel, moved electrum to the end of progression, and improved trial chamber loot.[1]
The notes explain that the developer enjoyed watching players experiment and would deliberately leave some features without advancements, such as jewelry, special books, villages and fetishes, while making steel and smithing "as intuitive as possible".
Additions
- Carbon-rich iron and its advancement ("A Brittle Alloy?").
- The "Hidden Flavors" (secret ingredient) and "Wait, you can make that?" (secret meal) advancements.
- Warding stones cannot be placed in trial chambers.
- Clay can be cooked on a kindling.
- Kiln recipes for charcoal and all glazed terracotta.
Changes
Steel and electrum
- Steel now has an intermediate item, carbon-rich iron. The developer had originally represented the cost of carbon with a long cooking time, but found waiting unfun, so the carbon cost moved into a recipe that uses a coal block, which can also be made from charcoal.
- Electrum is crafted with divine fragments, like adamant, to mark it as endgame, and has the enchantment glint.
Other
- Blaze drops reduced slightly.
- Freezing water no longer causes Blindness, and its Darkness and Slowness last less time.
- The silver sword, warding sword and warding shield were nerfed.
- The smithing table texture was changed to make smithing clearer.
- Sapling recipes unlock when the player gets the logs, not the leaves, because players who never picked up leaves could not find them.
- Fortune no longer affects spawners. The developer found four fragments per spawner "just too much", especially with elytra and nether fortresses making spawners easy to reach.
- Removed one splash text that the developer thought some people might find hurtful, and added others.
- Steel and iron dolabras have their intended attack speed.
- The anvil can no longer be crafted from iron blocks.
Fixes
- The overworld's darkness was stark and very dark. This was fixed, although the developer asked players which they preferred. "True darkness" returned in 1.10.
- The vanilla chest recipe had been unblocked, creating a duplicate. There are now two chest recipes, from logs and from planks, in the same group.
- Sticks from logs unlock properly.
- Short dry grass can be crafted from tall dry grass.
- Wool can be crafted back from carpet.
- Yellow beds and carpets can no longer be made from hay bales.
- Fixed the name of golden steamed carrots.
- Added the anvil smithing error sprite.
- Blocked the vanilla netherite recipes.
- Looting made wither skeletons drop their heads less often. This was fixed.
- Iron lanterns and chains unlock on obtaining ingots, and soul lanterns, soul kindling and soul torches unlock on obtaining soul fire base blocks.
- Divine fragments appear in trial chambers.
- Increased the chance of maces from trial chambers.
- Apples heal as much as their tooltip says.
- Bruschetta works.
