Trading

This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Trading, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.

Trading is the exchange of items with villagers and the Wandering Trader. Matcha Flavoured replaces every vanilla trade with its own: villagers sell goods for Obols, every trade can be used almost without limit, and only a few villagers buy anything from the player.

Currency

Main article: Obol

The currency of trading is the Obol, which replaces the emerald. Obols are much harder to come by than emeralds are in vanilla Minecraft, because villagers no longer buy the everyday goods (crops, sticks, coal, paper) that made emeralds easy to farm.[1] The main ways to earn obols are chest loot, advancements, fishing and selling caught fish to a Fisherman.

Mechanics

Unlimited trades

Almost every villager trade can be used 999 times before it needs to restock, so in practice trades never lock.[2] The only limited trades are those of the Wandering Trader (1 use each) and a villager's favorite food (1 use). The developer's stated aim is that there is "no need to keep them locked in a closet with their workbench to restock".[3]

Most trades are also bulk trades. A single obol buys a full stack of logs, wool, bone meal, arrows or redstone components, 4 bulk blocks (256 stone), or a bundle of seeds.

Who buys from the player

In vanilla Minecraft every profession buys something. In Matcha Flavoured, the only trades that pay obols are:

The Archaeologist and Mouthpiece also take Clay Fetishes and sacred texts, but pay in crystal hearts, maps and Ofuda instead of obols.

How offers are chosen

Trades are defined as data in the pack: each profession has one trade set per level, and each trade set picks a number of trades at random from a list when the villager reaches that level.[4][5] When a level has more possible trades than it offers, the profession page shows it as, for example, "3 of 5 offered".

Some trades only appear in certain biomes: the Farmer and Shepherd sell the livestock breed that matches the villager's climate (cold, temperate or warm).[6] Map trades are skipped when no matching structure is found within the search radius.

Many professions have no trades at their higher levels. Those levels use a placeholder trade that the game always discards, so the villager gains no new offers there.[7]

Changing a villager's trades

Because trade lists change between versions of the pack, an existing villager can be reset with an Amnestic. It makes the nearest villager forget its profession and return to Novice, so it picks new trades from the current lists the next time it takes a job.

Professions

Seven professions are renamed, and every profession has new trades. The job site blocks are the vanilla ones, several of which the pack also renames.
