Sulfur deposit is the renamed deepslate redstone ore.

Obtaining

Natural generation

Sulfur deposits come from the vanilla lower redstone veins, which the pack leaves unchanged: 8 attempts per chunk in veins of up to 8 blocks, from the world bottom up to y=−32, most common at the bottom. Since 1.12.8-beta the upper redstone veins generate between y=16 and y=56 as fossils, so they place a sulfur deposit only where they meet deepslate.[1] Before, those upper veins ran from the world bottom to y=15 and turned all the deepslate they reached into sulfur deposits, so sulfur deposits are now rarer.

Breaking

Mined with a pickaxe (see Tools#Mining levels), it drops 1–2 sulfur chunks. Silk Touch drops the block.[2]

Behavior

Since 1.12.8-beta, a player standing on a sulfur deposit gives off puffs of noxious gas particles, as on sulfurous hellstone.[3][4] The block has three textures of yellow veins in deepslate, which the game picks between at random for each block (the base texture on one block in five, each of the other two on two in five).[5]

History

0.4-alpha Texture changed to match the vanilla sulfur blocks.[6]
