A steel chestplate is the steel chestplate, made by smithing an iron chestplate with steel alloy. It is the most protective piece of the set, with 7 armor and Blast Protection IV.

The upgrade needs no template. Enchantments on the iron item carry over; where both items have the same enchantment, the higher level is kept.

Usage

Armor

It gives 7 armor, 1 armor toughness and 20% knockback resistance, with 1000 durability. The Blast Protection IV is an intrinsic: it is stored on the item and applied when the item enters a player's inventory.

Steel armor has 1000 durability per piece, armor toughness 1 and knockback resistance, and each piece carries Blast Protection. The full set gives 16 armor, 4 toughness, 50% knockback resistance and Blast Protection totalling 11 levels. The 1.10 release notes advise against wearing it in the Abbey: "Blast resistance makes the dungeon boring."

Repairing

It can be repaired in an anvil with iron ingots. The pack resets repair costs to zero, so it can be repaired indefinitely; see Repairing.

It keeps the iron item ID, so a blast furnace melts it back into a single iron ingot and the steel alloy is lost.

• The hand-written tooltip hides the real attributes and shows knockback resistance 2 (real value 0.2).
