A mud kiln is a block that fires clay, sand and stone. It replaces the smoker and works like one, with fuel, but instead of cooking food it is the pack's early kiln: it makes bricks, glass, terracotta and smooth stone before the player has an oven or a blast furnace. Food put in it comes out charred.

The mud kiln needs 4 mud bricks, 2 packed mud and a kindling.[1] The vanilla smoker recipe is removed. Crafting one grants the advancement Ancient Technology.
Packed mud can be made from mud and straw, or from dirt and short dry grass, so a mud kiln is reachable with only kindling and a hoe.

Kilning
All kiln recipes take 5 seconds, except raw copper (10 seconds) and wet sponges (2.5 seconds).[2]

Food
The mud kiln cooks only four foods. Dough becomes naan, and raw meat, fish and potatoes become charred meat, charred fish and charred potatoes, which heal less than food cooked in an oven or on kindling.[3] See Cooking#Charring.
