Benzene is a crafted chemical reagent used in magic. It is one of the two ingredients, with Stable Void, that turn Estus Ash into Stabilized Estus, and it is also needed for every Hell-Bound Book. Its item is the endermite spawn egg, renamed and retextured.

The recipe is shapeless: a Glass Bottle, three Hellspore and a Sulfur Chunk, so the first Benzene usually requires a trip to Hell. The crafted Benzene has its entity data removed, so it does not carry an endermite.[1]

A Hell-Bound Book takes one Benzene directly and one more through its Stabilized Estus, so each blessing costs two Benzene. Benzene is also crafted with an echo shard and two sculk veins into an ominous bottle, which is needed for the Prayer of Midas.[2]

Behavior

Benzene is still a spawn egg item. Like any spawn egg in the pack, using it on a spawner or trial spawner outside Creative mode destroys every spawner and trial spawner within 16 blocks and deals 20 damage to the player.[3]

1.10 The recipe is unlocked by obtaining Benzene or Hellspore.
1.12.1-alpha Witches no longer drop Benzene.
