TypeMagic material

Estus is the magic substance at the center of enchanting in Matcha Flavoured. It is dropped by undead mobs and passes through several forms: Raw Estus heals the player when picked up and turns into Estus Ash, which is crafted into Stabilized Estus or Crystallized Estus. The name is a reference to the healing estus of the Dark Souls series.[1]

The estus items replace the blaze-related items and glowstone of vanilla Minecraft.

Mechanics

When a player who is not in Creative mode gets Raw Estus in their inventory, each piece is used up at once: it grants a burst of Regeneration V and Resistance I, and is replaced with one Estus Ash.[2] Killing zombies is therefore a way to heal in a fight, since the pack has no natural regeneration.

Magic

Estus Ash is the most common magic ingredient. Seven of them, a Benzene and a Stable Void make one Stabilized Estus, which is the core of every Hell-Bound Book and of the eye of ender.[3]

Blazes, which are not undead, do not drop any estus; they drop fire charges instead.[4]

History

0.5-alpha Raw Estus is no longer processed in Creative mode. Estus processing optimized.
1.10 Blazes no longer drop Raw Estus. Raw Estus gets fire and smoke particles and a new texture. The release notes list the Estus Flask as removed.
1.12 The release notes state that the Estus Flask stays in the pack.
1.12.1-alpha Raw Estus can no longer fuel brewing stands. Estus Ash added to the fishing junk pool.
1.12.2 The Estus Flask is removed.
