Trailblaze is an enchantment added by Matcha Flavoured for boots that makes the wearer faster on paths, gravel and mud bricks. Its internal name is Traversal.

Obtaining

• Prayer of St. Clement, a crafted blessing (Trailblaze III). It stores matcha:traversal directly, so applying it to boots that already have Trailblaze does not go past level III.
• The Prayer of Exodus Ofuda, traded from the Mouthpiece for The Tanakh (Trailblaze III, with Loyalty III and Power II).
• Sturdy Leather Boots are crafted with Trailblaze I, and those found in chests have it too.

Behavior

Speed

The enchantment adds 0.0155 movement speed per level (to the base player speed of 0.1), so Trailblaze III makes the wearer about 46% faster. It does not apply while riding or flying.

The boost runs on a short buffer, so it isn't lost the moment the wearer steps off a path block. Each tick the wearer walks along the ground on a path block, the buffer fills by 2, up to 20; every tick it drains by 1. The boost lasts as long as the buffer isn't empty, so it builds up while walking on paths, survives jumps, and runs out about one second after leaving them. On a path that mixes path blocks with other blocks, the boost holds as long as path blocks make up about half of the steps.

The path blocks are the pack's #matcha:is_path tag:

• dirt path and coarse dirt
• gravel
• packed mud
• mud bricks, mud brick slabs and mud brick stairs
• Dirt Slabs

Durability and particles

While the boost is active, each time the wearer moves to another block on the ground, the boots have a 4% chance to lose 1 durability. Walking on a path block kicks up dirt particles every 5 ticks.

Trailblaze's anvil cost multiplier is 8, and its enchanting table cost is 10 plus 10 per level above the first.

Issues

• The developer's notes for earlier versions record that the speed boost from mud brick slabs applied after a jump but not when running normally.

History

0.5-alpha	The Prayer of St. Clement now works.
1.10	Renamed from Traversal to Trailblaze in the language files; the internal id is unchanged.
1.12.1-alpha	Now works on mud brick slabs and stairs and dirt slabs. Speed raised from 0.0105 to 0.0155 per level.
1.12.2	Moved from the main to the matcha namespace, although the Prayer of St. Clement still gave the old enchantment.
1.12.3	The Prayer of St. Clement stores Trailblaze directly, so it no longer raises boots past level III.
1.12.6-alpha	Reworked for Minecraft 26.3. The speed boost now runs on a buffer that fills while walking on path blocks and runs out about a second after leaving them, so it carries over mixed paths and jumps. Boots now lose durability on any block while the boost is active, rather than only on path blocks. The anvil cost multiplier rose from 0 to 8, and the enchanting table cost from 1 plus 1 per level to 10 plus 10 per level.
