This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Spawner, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.
Spawner
TypeBlock

A spawner (monster spawner) in Matcha Flavoured is worth breaking rather than farming. Breaking one drops a Divine Fragment Divine Fragment, most mobs from the pack's spawners drop nothing, and putting a spawn egg on a spawner destroys every spawner nearby and hurts the player.

Obtaining

Spawners can't be obtained as items in Survival. When broken, a spawner drops one Divine Fragment Divine Fragment instead of experience.[1][2] Fortune doesn't increase the drop.

Generation

The pack generates its own spawners in several structures:[3]

Structure Mob
Monster room Zombie, Skeleton or Spider, with equal chances
Papal Outpost watchtower Zombie
Woodland Mansion (one room) Spider
Abbey rooms Husk, Skeleton, Cave Spider

Monster rooms are placed as a vanilla monster room followed by one of three spawner templates, matcha:spawner/zombie_spawner, skeleton_spawner or spider_spawner. Monster rooms are also more common than in vanilla; see Dungeon.

Behavior

Mobs drop nothing

The spawners placed by the pack's structures give their mobs the NoDrops tag. The zombie, husk, skeleton, spider and cave spider loot tables check for this tag and drop nothing when it is present.[4] This makes spawner-based mob farms useless for loot.

Spawners generated by vanilla code rather than a structure template, such as those in mineshafts, strongholds and fortresses, don't tag their mobs, so those mobs still drop their normal loot.

As with any hostile mob, spawner mobs are also subject to the surface check: after the Ender Dragon is killed, a spawner above Y=63 or open to the sky can only keep spawning inside trial chambers and abbeys. See Surface.

Spawn eggs

If a player who is not in Creative mode uses a spawn egg on a spawner or a trial spawner:[5]

  • every spawner and trial spawner within 16 blocks of the player is destroyed (using the destroy mode of /fill, which drops their loot);
  • the player takes 20 damage (20 (Heart × 10)), enough to kill a player with 10 hearts and no armor.

The check matches item IDs, not item names, so it also applies to the pack's items that are built on spawn eggs, such as the bedrock buster, Flour Flour, Dough Dough, Raw Diamond Raw Diamond, Nazar Nazar and the curry stocks.[6]

History

1.02 Fortune works on spawners.
1.03 Fortune no longer works on spawners, since 4 fragments per spawner was too many.
1.10 Trial chamber spawner loot tables changed.
1.12.1-alpha Summoning items can no longer be used on spawners.
1.12.2 Mobs spawned from spawners no longer drop anything. Spawners no longer kill players who place a block on them, only those who use a spawn egg on them.

Trivia

  • The README's tips for new players include "Break Spawners!".[7]
  • The design video explains that divine fragments, found "by vanquishing powerful forces or breaking spawners", are meant to discourage mob grinders: "You could make a simple mob grinder, but the divine fragment is staring you in the face."[8]
  • The developer had wanted spawner mobs not to drop anything since before 1.12.2, but noted that "tag can't influence loot tables I dont think". The feature was added by HapppySpud.[9]
