Matcha Flavoured 0.5-alpha, the "Fishing Overhaul", is a release of Matcha Flavoured, published on June 29, 2026. It replaced vanilla fishing with a climate-based system and added the Frost Protection enchantment, the clay statues and several foods. The developer called it close to a full release and said the next update would focus on fixes and polish instead of features.[1]
Additions
Fishing
- The fishing system was overhauled:
- Caught fish have rarities, which set how much they sell for. Cod and salmon are only worth money when caught, not when taken from killed mobs.
- Freshwater biomes are grouped into five climates (cold, cool, temperate, hot wet and hot dry) and saltwater biomes into five (cold, cool, temperate, warm and hot).
- Each climate has five fish: two common, one uncommon, one rare and one epic. Swamps have their own group with unique junk but, at this point, no unique fish.
- The aim was that every climate earns about the same when fishing, apart from a few rare biomes.
- The fisherman only buys higher-rarity fish after the player has sold lower-rarity ones, so that rare fish are not spoiled in advance.
- Cooked pufferfish.
- Crystal hearts added to the fishing loot table.
Items and blocks
- The Frost Protection enchantment, which gives immunity to freezing water at level III.
- Two clay fetishes, called the mournful and cheerful clay statues in the notes. One sets the weather to rain ("Lament") and the other sets it to clear ("Rejoice").
- The fried egg.
- The mace, properly added and retextured.
- Golden apples integrated with a proper tooltip and texture.
- Textures for all blessings, sculk veins, echo shards and almost every flower item.
General
- Translation support for all foods, fish, enchantments, blessings, the bedrock buster, the warding stone and many other items.
- The wandering trader buys music discs.
- Overworld mobs no longer drop the equipment they are holding.
- Tridents in warm and cold ocean ruins.
- All chest loot tables made translation-compatible.
- Ghast tears drop more often.
- Evokers drop divine fragments.
- Leaves no longer drop saplings or sticks. Saplings are crafted instead, to reduce inventory clutter.
Changes
- Sweet berry jam no longer counts as honey, which had caused problems.
- Buffed the golden apple foods.
- Optimized the freezing water mechanic, the happy ghast horn and Estus processing.
- Increased the range of the happy ghast horn.
- The Prayer of Icarus buffed to Feather Falling II.
- New textures for oak, acacia, dark oak and jungle saplings, the cauldron, and rose, lilac and peony blocks.
- The pack no longer sets
mobGriefingto false, leaving the choice to the player. - Many small changes to recipes, recipe unlocks and the datapack's organization.
Fixes
- Glow jam returns a glass bottle when eaten.
- The golden carrot recipe unlocks on obtaining a gold nugget, and the milk bottle recipe on obtaining milk.
- The vanilla end rod recipe is blocked.
- Fishing is no longer broken.
- Nautilus shells no longer unlock the stabilized Estus recipe.
- Chicken jockeys drop the "Lava Chicken" music disc.
- Cooking food on a kindling unlocks the right recipes.
- The Prayer of St. Clement works.
- The minecart texture works.
- Fixed the invisible item frame's texture, recipe and recipe unlock.
- The dragon-killing advancement works.
- Killing the Ender Dragon banishes evil from the surface even if the player who killed it is offline, and each player who kills the dragon for the first time creates a new divine favor.
- Estus is no longer processed in Creative mode, as a temporary fix for a major bug.
- Fixed a bug that caused a severe performance drop in the End.
Future plans
The release notes list plans for a legendary fish tier caught only under conditions such as rain, night or a full moon, which is not in the game as of 1.12.2, and for more fish in magical and unusual biomes. The deep dark, pale garden and sulfur caves later received their own catches.[2] The notes also say that a "ping" sound when a fish bites seemed impossible without mods. Distinct fishing sounds were later added in 1.12.1-alpha.
