Jewelry is a group of wearable items sold by the Jeweler: earrings and a circlet, worn in the head slot. The four gem pieces each give a permanent status effect while worn, bought with Obols and a gem from a structure or a boss. Three plain pairs of earrings have no effect beyond their 1 armor point.

The developer deliberately gave jewelry no advancements explaining it, preferring that players find out what it does on their own.[1]

Properties

All jewelry is built on a poisonous potato that can't be eaten and doesn't stack, which gives it these properties:[4]

  • It is worn in the head slot, so it replaces a helmet. Only one piece of jewelry can be worn at a time, and wearing jewelry means giving up a helmet's armor and any helmet intrinsics.
  • It gives 1 armor point, with no armor toughness or knockback resistance.
  • It has no durability, so it never breaks.
  • It burns in fire or lava when dropped, like most items.
  • It doesn't keep piglins calm, which adamant and electrum armor (built on netherite) do.[5]

The gem effects are intrinsic enchantments that run every tick while the piece is worn by a player, reapplying a 1-second hidden effect. The effect therefore lasts as long as the jewelry is worn and wears off shortly after it is taken off.[6] The four gem intrinsics are mutually exclusive (the pack's #matcha:exclusive_set/permanent_effect tag), so no item can hold two of them.[7]

  • Opal Earrings give Dolphin's Grace at all times and Conduit Power only while the wearer is in water.[8]
  • Ruby Circlet gives Fire Resistance.[9]
  • Amber Earrings give 3 seconds of Regeneration I whenever the wearer has no Regeneration, which amounts to constant Regeneration I.[10] Since Matcha Flavoured has no natural regeneration, this is one of the few ways to heal without eating.
  • Topaz Earrings give Haste II.[11]

Gems

Each gem comes from a different source and unlocks one piece of gem jewelry. The Jeweler buys gems back at Master level.

Gem Source Jeweler pays Advancement
Opal Opal Killing an Elder Guardian 4 × Obol Obol Canto I: "Defeat the Sea God"
Ruby Ruby Bastion Remnant chests 8 × Obol Obol Canto II: "Pillage the Remnants of Pandaemonium"
Amber Amber Brushing suspicious blocks in trail ruins 4 × Obol Obol Canto III: "Exhume the Pilgrim's Trails"
Topaz Topaz Ancient city chests 10 × Obol Obol Canto IV: "Raid Tartarus"

The four Canto advancements form a chain in the Tutorial tab. The first three each reward a Crystal Heart, and Canto IV rewards two.[12]

Nazar Circlet

The resource pack contains a worn texture for a nazar circlet, but there is no item, recipe or trade for it. It is not obtainable in the current version.[13]

History

0.4-alpha Gems can now be sold to the Jeweler.
0.6-alpha Jewelry is now unbreakable, so it never needs repairing.
1.10 Fixed Amber Earrings in multiplayer.
1.12 Amber Earrings could be crafted in a smithing table, a leftover from testing. This was removed.
1.12.1-alpha All jewelry textures were redrawn at a higher resolution.
1.12.2 Added Diamond, Amethyst and Lapis Earrings, which have no effect.

Opal Earrings now give Conduit Power only in water. Earrings no longer give knockback resistance.

1.12.6-alpha Jewelry is now built on a poisonous potato instead of a netherite helmet. It still never breaks, but it burns in fire and lava and no longer counts as piglin-safe armor.[14]

The four gem intrinsics are now mutually exclusive.

Trivia

  • The developer on the plain earrings: "They don't do anything but they ARE very cute".[15]
  • The jewelry textures for the amber and opal earrings were originally made by a community artist and edited by the developer.[16]
