Zephyr is an enchantment added by Matcha Flavoured for leather boots that turns sneaking into a high jump. Higher levels add a slow descent and a charged updraft.
Obtaining
The Elegy of Hyacinthus gives Zephyr I (together with Wind Burst I, which only maces can take), stored directly, so two elegies can be combined in an anvil into a Zephyr II book. Higher levels also come from combining two boots with the same level of Zephyr.[1]
Usage
Since 1.12.8-beta Zephyr can only be applied to leather boots: the pack's Leather Boots and Sturdy Leather Boots both use that item. Before, it could go on any boots.[2][3]
Behavior
All effects are checked every tick while the boots are worn.[4]
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| I | While sneaking, the wearer has |
| II | As level I, and the wearer also has |
| III | As level II, and the wearer can charge an updraft. Each tick spent sneaking adds to the charge; after 45 ticks (2.25 seconds) of continuous sneaking, a dust burst and a chime mark it as ready.[5] Releasing sneak while in the air with a full charge plays a wind burst sound with gust and poof particles and gives |
The usual way to use it is to sneak on the ground until the charge is ready, jump, and let go of sneak in mid-air. Since the charge is kept while sneaking, the wearer can also charge while drifting down under Slow Falling and release in the air.[6]
Zephyr's anvil cost multiplier is 0.
History
| 0.3-alpha | Re-added the "ping" sound. |
|---|---|
| 1.12.1-alpha | No longer spams its sound while under Slow Falling. The wind burst is quieter. |
| 1.12.2 | Reworked into three levels.[7] Moved from the main to the matcha namespace, although the Elegy of Hyacinthus still gave the old enchantment.
|
| 1.12.3 | The Elegy of Hyacinthus stores Zephyr directly, so two elegies can be combined into a Zephyr II book.[8] |
| 1.12.6-alpha | The level III updraft was reworked. The charge must now be built in one continuous sneak, and it is cancelled by releasing sneak on the ground or before it is full; before, sneak time added up across separate sneaks. The launch no longer requires Slow Falling to still be active, and a release without a full charge no longer plays the wind burst sound.[6] |
| 1.12.8-beta October 23, 2026 |
Can only be applied to leather boots. The Elegy of Hyacinthus also gives Wind Burst I.[9][10][11] |
Trivia
- Zephyrus is the Greek god of the west wind. In myth, Hyacinthus was loved by both Zephyrus and Apollo, which is why the Zephyr blessing is the Elegy of Hyacinthus.
