Opal is a gem dropped by the Elder Guardian. It is used to buy Opal Earrings from the Jeweler.
Obtaining
Mob loot
An Elder Guardian always drops one opal when killed by a player.[1]
Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

[2] An opal can either be turned into jewelry or sold back to a Master-level Jeweler for 4 Obols.
Advancements
Obtaining an opal grants Canto I ("Defeat the Sea God") in the Tutorial tab, which rewards a Crystal Heart. It is the first of the four Canto advancements.[3]
