Explorer maps

This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Explorer Map, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.

Explorer maps are filled maps that mark the location of a structure. In Matcha Flavoured they are sold by the Archaeologist and the Wandering Trader for a single Obol each (the Overgrown Abbey map costs a copy of Paradise Lost or The Divine Comedy instead), with no compass needed. The pack adds maps to many more structures than vanilla Minecraft, including its own Overgrown Abbey and Papal Outpost.

Obtaining

Archaeologist

The Archaeologist (the renamed cartographer) sells 13 maps across its five levels. Each map trade can be used 999 times. Each map is built on the matching named map item of Minecraft 26.3 (a Buried Mineshaft Map, a Swamp Hut Map and so on); maps to structures that have no map item of their own use a similar one, such as a Jungle Pyramid Map for the Papal Outpost Map. The Mineshaft, Trial Chamber and Ancient City maps keep the pack's names, and the maps to the pack's own structures and to shipwrecks and trail ruins have names of their own. Since 1.12.8-beta the Swamp Hut, Desert Pyramid, Jungle Pyramid, Warm Ocean Ruins and Woodland Explorer maps show the names from Minecraft 26.3 instead of the pack's.

The Papal Outpost map searches for pillager outposts, because the papal outpost generates in their place. The Overgrown Abbey map is the only one bought with a book instead of an obol; there are two separate trades, one for each book. The Papal Outpost, Shipwreck, Trail Ruins and Overgrown Abbey maps have their own item textures, and the pack draws its own map markers for the papal outpost, shipwreck, trail ruins and abbey (replacing the game's gray, brown, light gray and green banner markers, so banners of those colors marked on any map show the same symbols; the light blue banner marker is redrawn too, though no map uses it).

Wandering Trader

A Wandering Trader offers 3 of these 6 maps, each for 1 obol and each usable 999 times. The village maps are Minecraft 26.3's own village map items under the pack's names.

The Swamp Hut Map trade is never offered (see Known bugs): it is still built on an empty map, which Minecraft 26.3 no longer turns into a filled map, so the trade's check for a filled map throws it away and the trader draws another map instead. A trader therefore offers 3 of the 5 village maps.

Abandoned camps

The chests of an abandoned camp hold maps too. A common chest has a map to a camp in a different biome: the Bamboo Camp Map, Birch Forest Camp Map, Cherry Grove Camp Map, Dappled Forest Camp Map, Flower Forest Camp Map, Pale Garden Camp Map, Swamp Camp Map and Windswept Forest Camp Map. A camp never holds the map that leads to its own biome's camp. A secret chest has one map to a buried structure: Buried Ancient City Map, Trial Chamber Map, Mineshaft Map, Desert Pyramid Map, Jungle Pyramid Map, Warm Ocean Ruins Map or Mansion Map. The secret chest's maps are named items of Minecraft 26.3 itself, with their default names. Since 1.12.8-beta the pack's language file renames three of them (Trial Chamber Map, Mineshaft Map and Mansion Map, which were the Buried Trial Chambers Map, Buried Mineshaft Map and Woodland Mansion Map). All but two now share a name with the Archaeologist's map to the same structure: the woodland mansion map is the Mansion Map here and the Woodland Explorer Map from the Archaeologist, and the ancient city map is the Buried Ancient City Map here and the Ancient City Map from the Archaeologist.

Other maps

Buried treasure maps are found in shipwreck map chests, as in vanilla Minecraft; see Buried treasure. Ocean ruins chests also hold buried treasure maps, which lead to buried treasure. In the 1.12.3 alpha for 26.3 these maps had a woodland mansion as their destination, so they led to the nearest mansion; since 1.12.6-alpha they lead to buried treasure.

Behavior

When the villager reaches the level that offers a map, the game searches for the nearest structure of that type within 100 chunks. If one is found, the map is drawn with the structure's marker; if not, that trade is left out of the villager's offers. Every copy bought from the same villager leads to the same structure.

Compared with vanilla, where a cartographer's explorer maps cost 8 to 14 emeralds plus a compass and can be bought a few times before restocking, every other Matcha Flavoured map costs a single obol, and the Overgrown Abbey map costs a copy of Paradise Lost or The Divine Comedy.

History

1.12.6-alpha	The Archaeologist's maps are built on the separate map items of Minecraft 26.3 instead of on an empty map (first in the 1.12.3 alpha for 26.3). The Mineshaft, Papal Outpost, Shipwreck, Warm Ocean Ruin, Overgrown Abbey and Ancient City maps show their structure's marker instead of a red X; the Desert Temple Map shows a desert pyramid instead of a desert village, and the Trail Ruins Map the pack's own trail ruins marker instead of a plains village. New map markers for the papal outpost, shipwreck, trail ruins and abbey, and new item textures for the Shipwreck and Trail Ruins maps. Abandoned camp chests hold camp maps and buried structure maps.
1.12.8-beta October 23, 2026	Five of the Archaeologist's maps take their names from Minecraft 26.3 instead of the pack's language file: the Witch Hut Map became the Swamp Hut Map, the Desert Temple Map the Desert Pyramid Map, the Jungle Temple Map the Jungle Pyramid Map, the Warm Ocean Ruin Map the Warm Ocean Ruins Map and the Mansion Map the Woodland Explorer Map. In abandoned camp secret chests, the Buried Trial Chambers Map, Buried Mineshaft Map and Woodland Mansion Map are renamed Trial Chamber Map, Mineshaft Map and Mansion Map. The Wandering Trader's five village maps are offered again, and each can be bought 999 times instead of once. They had been built on an empty map, which Minecraft 26.3 no longer turns into a filled map, so the trades were thrown away. The Swamp Hut Map trade still is.

Trivia

• The language file also contains the name "Archive Map", for the planned Archive, but no trade or loot table gives one.
• The developer has described a plan in which sacred texts are traded for maps that lead from one structure to the next, with the Archaeologist buying sacred texts; the Overgrown Abbey map is the first trade of this kind.
• The resource pack has an item texture and model for a "seminary map", which no item or trade uses.
• The developer's to-do list includes making map trades require a secondary item, such as an empty map.
