Defined instatues.json

A clay fetish is a small clay statue that changes the weather when it is played like a horn. It comes in two variants with the same name, told apart by their description: Rejoice, which clears the weather, and Lament, which brings rain. Clay fetishes are found by brushing suspicious blocks.

Obtaining

Archaeology

Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

Archaeology

Source Stack size Chance Notes
Abbey / grave (archaeology/abbey/grave) 1 5.88%
Desert well (archaeology/desert_well) 1 10.00%
Trail ruins rare (archaeology/trail_ruins_rare) 1 6.67%
Village plains (archaeology/village_plains) 1 5.26%

The chances above are for either variant; each variant is equally likely.[1]

Usage

A clay fetish is a goat horn with its own sound. Using it plays a low, soul-sand-valley ambience sound that can be heard up to 16 blocks away, and 3 seconds later changes the weather:[2][3]

Description Effect
Rejoice Sets the weather to clear.[4]
Lament Sets the weather to rain.[5]

The weather is changed with the /weather command, so it lasts a random, vanilla-length time. Like a goat horn, a clay fetish is not used up; after playing it, it has a 30-second cooldown.[6] It works for any player in multiplayer.

History

0.5-alpha Added the Mournful Clay Statue (sets the weather to rain) and the Cheerful Clay Statue (sets the weather to clear).
1.10 Clay fetishes can be traded with the Archaeologist. Added the advancement "A Miraculous Discovery!".
1.12.1-alpha Clay fetishes work for all players in multiplayer.

Trivia

  • The items' internal names are still "cheerful clay statue" and "mournful clay statue", from their names when added in 0.5-alpha.
  • The developer chose not to explain fetishes in the advancements: "some things, I will not give advancements for (Jewellery, Special Books, Villages, Fetishes (that one im iffy on), etc.)". An advancement for finding one was added in 1.10, but it doesn't say what they do.[8]
  • The design video mentions them in passing: "I even added little statues that let you change the weather."[9]
