Stonecutter

The stonecutter is a block that turns one block or item into another in a single step. In Matcha Flavoured it works with far more than stone: the pack adds 433 stonecutter recipes for wood, metal, glass, mud and dirt, and keeps the 351 vanilla recipes, so most building materials can be cut without waste.

| Stonecutter (vanilla recipe) | Iron Ingot + 3 × Limestone |
The recipe is the vanilla one: an iron ingot above three limestone.
Usage
The stonecutter works exactly as in vanilla Minecraft. What changes is the list of inputs it accepts. The design video sums it up: "Stone cutters give you more bang for your buck. Can be used with almost all materials."[1]
The pack's recipes follow a few patterns:
- Logs of every wood type (including stripped logs, wood, stems and hyphae) can be cut straight into that wood's planks (4), slabs (8), stairs (4), fences (3), fence gates, doors (2), trapdoors (4), buttons (8), pressure plates (4), signs (2) and shelves. Any log also gives a barrel, a chiseled bookshelf or 16 ladders.[2] Logs, wood and their stripped forms can be converted into each other. Crimson and warped stems and hyphae can be cut into each other and into their stripped forms, but stripped stems and hyphae cannot be turned back.
- Planks give 2 slabs, stairs, a trapdoor or 2 buttons. Stairs can be cut back into planks and trapdoors into slabs, so a wrong cut can be undone.
- Bamboo: a block of bamboo or block of stripped bamboo gives 2 planks, 4 slabs, 2 stairs, 2 fences, a fence gate, a door, 2 trapdoors, 4 buttons, 2 pressure plates, a sign or a shelf, and also 2 bamboo mosaic, 4 mosaic slabs or 2 mosaic stairs. Bamboo planks and bamboo mosaic give 1 button (not 2) or a trapdoor.
- Metals: an iron ingot or copper ingot gives 4 bars, 6 chains or a trapdoor. A block of iron or copper gives 36 bars, 54 chains, 6 doors or 9 trapdoors; a block of iron also gives 2 cauldrons, and a block of copper 4 lightning rods. Steel Alloy gives twice as much as an iron ingot (8 bars, 12 chains, 2 trapdoors, a door or a cauldron). Every oxidized and waxed form of copper has its own set, except that waxed weathered copper has no trapdoor recipe.
- Glass: glass and every stained glass can be cut into 4 panes.
- Other: dirt into 2 dirt slabs, packed mud into mud bricks and their slab, stairs and wall, hellbricks into 3 hellbrick fences, limestone into 4 stone buttons or 4 stone pressure plates, and tuff, polished tuff, tuff brick and smooth sandstone stairs back into their full blocks.
- Poplar: Poplar logs and planks are cut as the other woods are, including turning poplar logs and wood into their stripped forms.[3][4]
- Wool: each of the 16 colors of wool gives 4 carpets, 2 wool slabs, a wool stairs or 2 cushions.[5][6][7] Wool slabs and stairs and cushions are blocks added in Minecraft 26.3. Concrete is cut into 2 slabs or a stairs by vanilla's own recipes, listed under Kept from vanilla.
Most chiseled blocks, which vanilla crafts from two slabs, must be made in the stonecutter instead (chiseled sulfur and chiseled cinnabar can also be crafted from four bricks), because the pack uses two slabs in a crafting grid to turn them back into their full block.[8]

History
| 0.6-alpha | Chiseled blocks can no longer be crafted from slabs and must be made in the stonecutter. |
|---|---|
| 1.10 | Iron chains can be cut from iron ingots. |
| 1.12.1-alpha | Glass can be cut into panes. Chiseled bookshelves can be made in the stonecutter. Poplar was added to the stonecutter, according to the release notes. |
| 1.12.6-alpha | Poplar blocks can be cut as other woods are, and wool and concrete of every color can be cut into slabs and stairs, and wool into carpets and cushions (first in the 1.12.3 alpha for 26.3). |
| 1.12.9 October 31, 2026 |
The pack's own concrete slab and stairs recipes are removed; vanilla's identical recipes still cut concrete into slabs and stairs. Poplar logs and wood can be cut into stripped poplar logs and stripped poplar wood. |
Trivia
- The 1.12.1-alpha release notes say poplar was added to the stonecutter, but poplar did not exist in Minecraft 26.2, so the recipes did nothing; they were removed in 1.12.2 and returned in 1.12.6-alpha, for 26.3. See Poplar.
- Birch is the only wood whose planks can be cut into a pressure plate; for the other woods, pressure plates only come from logs.[10]
- The pack has two identical recipes each for the exposed copper trapdoor, oxidized copper trapdoor, waxed exposed copper trapdoor and weathered copper trapdoor, which is why the tables list 429 of the 433 recipes.[11]
