This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Cartographer, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.

The Archaeologist is a villager profession that sells explorer maps, pottery sherds and the Archeologist's Brush. It replaces the cartographer, and its job site block is the Cartography Table. It is the only villager that sells maps to the Overgrown Abbey and the Papal Outpost.

All trades can be used 999 times before restocking, and every level offers all of its trades.

Maps

Main article: Explorer maps

Every map costs a single obol, with no compass, compared with 8 to 14 emeralds and a compass for a vanilla cartographer's explorer map. The Overgrown Abbey map is the exception: it costs a copy of Paradise Lost or The Divine Comedy instead of an obol.

Each map searches for the nearest structure of its type within a radius of 100 chunks when the archaeologist reaches that level. If there is none, the map trade is not offered. The Papal Outpost map targets pillager outposts, since papal outposts replace them.

Pottery sherds

The archaeologist sells one pottery sherd per level for 1 obol: Sheaf, Howl, Snort, Mourner and Arms Up.

Archeologist's Brush

At Apprentice level it sells the Archeologist's Brush, an unbreakable brush, for 1 obol.

Clay fetishes

At Master level the archaeologist exchanges either kind of Clay Fetish (the cheerful one, "Rejoice", or the mournful one, "Lament") for a crystal heart.

Like every villager, an archaeologist that has been traded with also buys its favorite food once.

History

Trivia

• The Desert Temple Map uses the desert village map marker, and the Trail Ruins Map uses the plains village marker.
• The developer has described plans for the archaeologist to buy sacred texts in exchange for maps to structures: "The Moutpiece seeks wisdom, the Archaeologist seeks knowledge." The Overgrown Abbey map is the first trade of this kind.
• Internally the profession is still minecraft:cartographer; only its displayed name changes.
