This article is about how Matcha Flavoured changes blocks and building materials. For the full list of renamed items, see Renamed items.

Blocks in Matcha Flavoured are mostly the vanilla Minecraft blocks, but the pack renames many of them, rewrites a large number of recipes to make building materials cheaper and easier to undo, changes what dozens of blocks drop, and retextures many of them in its resource pack. Datapacks cannot add new blocks, so every "new" block in the pack is a vanilla block with a new name, texture and recipe.

Renamed blocks

Items renamed in this area include Electric Wire (redstone dust), Phosphor (glow ink sac), Hellbrick (nether brick), Hellspore (nether wart), Sulfur Chunk (gunpowder), Quartz (nether quartz), Fire Starter (flint and steel) and Water Bottle (the contentless potion shown in recipes).

Recipe changes

The datapack removes over 350 vanilla recipes in its pack.mcmeta filter and adds its own. For blocks, the changes follow a few patterns:

• Cheaper basics. Chests can be crafted from 8 logs (4 chests), glass bottles come 3 per glass, electric inverters 8 per craft, ladders 8 per craft, TNT 2 per craft, and chains 18 from three iron ingots.
• Early access. Blocks that vanilla locks behind late-game materials get recipes from common ones: Sacks from sturdy leather, malachite from copper, phosphor lamps and phosphor rods from glow lichen, and electric wire from copper ingots.
• Everything can be undone. Two slabs of nearly any material craft back into the full block, stairs cut back into their block in the stonecutter, and many compressed blocks can be uncrafted (bamboo, ice, sculk, melons, amethyst). Chiseled blocks move from the crafting grid to the stonecutter.
• The stonecutter works with wood, metal and glass. See Stonecutter for the full list of 348 added recipes.
• Firing moves to the right station. Stone, bricks, glass and terracotta are fired in a mud kiln, and metal-like conversions (cobblestone to gravel to sand, hellstone to hellbrick, cracked bricks) happen in a blast furnace. Stone and copper can no longer be cooked in an oven.
• Cloning. Most small flowers, dripleaves, spore blossoms and lily pads can be multiplied fourfold with a water bottle and bone meal. See Hyacinth#Cloning.

The design video explains the intent: "I made a lot of tweaks to the recipes to make them kinder for players. Prismarine is craftable from copper. Stone cutters give you more bang for your buck. Can be used with almost all materials."

Drop changes

The pack overrides the loot tables of 91 blocks. Apart from ores (see Ores) and crops (see the food articles), the changes are:

Gravel	Always drops 1 dirt and 1 flint instead of gravel or flint.
Short grass, tall grass, ferns	Wheat grain only drops when cut with a hoe; ferns never drop it. Hoes collect the plants themselves.
Bush, dead bush, dry grass, vines	Can be collected with a hoe as well as shears.
Glow Lichen	Collected with a hoe or shears.
Sculk	Drops 4 sculk veins without Silk Touch.
Sculk vein	Drops itself with any tool.
Sculk sensor, calibrated sculk sensor, sculk shrieker	Drop an echo shard without Silk Touch.
Malachite lantern	Always drops itself.
Ender chest	Always drops itself, instead of 8 obsidian without Silk Touch.
Kindling, Soul Kindling	Always drop themselves, unlit, instead of charcoal or soul soil.
Bookshelf	Drops 1 book instead of 3.
Enchanting table	Drops 2 diamonds, 4 obsidian and a hell-bound book, refunding its parts; the pack removes enchanting tables.
Melon, sweet berry bush, cave vines, chorus plant, carrots, wheat, tomatoes	Drop the pack's food items; Fortune and the electrum tool intrinsic add to the drops of most of them. See Food.
Snow, snow block	Snowballs stack to 64.
Spawner	Drops a divine fragment.

Notes on the crop tables:

• The 1.12.2 notes say Fortune now works on tomatoes, glow berry vines and chorus plants. In the tomato (beetroot) and chorus plant tables, however, a fixed count (1–3 tomatoes, 0–1 chorus fruit) is set after the Fortune bonus, which replaces it, so Fortune has no effect on those two. On cave vines it works.
• The cave vine tables have no check for whether the vine is carrying berries, unlike vanilla, so every broken cave vine block drops glow berries.

Adamant auto-smelting

A tool with the adamant tool intrinsic smelts some blocks as they are mined:

Where "Fortune applies", both Fortune and the electrum tool intrinsic increase the drop, using the ore formula.

Tag changes

The pack edits several block tags:

• Climbable: every chain can be climbed like a ladder.
• Endermen can only pick up melons, pumpkins and TNT (the tag is replaced, not extended).
• Mineable with a pickaxe: glass and stained glass (blocks and panes), mob heads, the beacon, glowstone (crystallized estus), malachite lanterns, electric lamps, phosphor lamps, the copper eye, levers and frosted ice.
• Mineable with a hoe: wool, carpets, glow lichen and phosphor lamps.
• Mineable with an axe: beds, candles, cactus and honeycomb blocks.
• Mineable with a shovel: dirt slabs.
• Supports vegetation: sand, red sand and packed mud, so grass and flowers can be placed on them.
• Nether portal frame: crying obsidian counts as well as obsidian.

The pack also defines its own tag of path blocks for the Trailblaze enchantment (coarse dirt, gravel, dirt paths, packed mud, mud bricks and their slabs and stairs, and dirt slabs), and tags of blocks that wooden, copper and iron tools cannot mine.

Resource pack changes

The resource pack retextures a large number of blocks. Changes with their own articles:

• Vertical slabs: doubled wooden slabs show vertical planks.
• Large bricks: doubled andesite, diorite, granite, cut sandstone and brick slabs show large bricks.
• Poplar: textures prepared for a future wood type.
• Glow Lichen: three-dimensional tufts on floors and worm-like strands on ceilings.
• Rose: rose and cyan rose models for item frames.
• Random texture variations for dirt, coarse dirt, dirt slabs, gravel, rooted dirt, lily pads and several flowers.

History

0.5-alpha	Leaves no longer drop saplings or sticks.
0.6-alpha	All slabs can be crafted back into their full block; chiseled blocks move to the stonecutter. Sand, red sand and packed mud support vegetation.
0.7-alpha	All "Nether" blocks renamed to "Hell".
1.0	End stone bricks became brown sandstone, and froglights became phosphor lamps.
1.12.1-alpha	Stone, terracotta, quartz and other blocks can no longer be cooked in an oven; they are kilned or blasted instead. Crying obsidian counts as a nether portal frame.
1.12.2	Chains are climbable, and endermen can only pick up melons, pumpkins and TNT. Vertical slab and poplar textures added.
