Hellstone is the dark rock that makes up most of Hell. It is the vanilla netherrack, renamed along with the rest of the dimension and given a near-black texture. It can be fired into hellbricks and hellbrick items.
Obtaining
Breaking
Hellstone drops itself when mined with a pickaxe. A tool with the adamant tool intrinsic smelts it as it is mined and drops a hellbrick instead; this drop is increased by Fortune and by the electrum tool intrinsic, using the same formula as ore drops.[1]
Natural generation
Hellstone generates throughout Hell as in vanilla. Two ores are variants of it: gilded hellstone (vanilla nether gold ore) and sulfurous hellstone (vanilla nether quartz ore).

Hellstone has two cooking recipes, and they give different amounts:
- In an oven, one hellstone becomes a full block of hellbricks in 10 seconds.[2]
- In a blast furnace, one hellstone becomes a single hellbrick item in 5 seconds.[3]
The vanilla furnace recipe for nether brick is removed.[4]
