Brown sandstone is a decorative brick block made by combining sandstone and red sandstone. It takes over the block ID of vanilla end stone bricks, with a new tan brick texture, and so it also has slab, stairs and wall forms.

Two sandstone and two red sandstone, placed diagonally, make 4 brown sandstone.[1] The recipe unlocks when the player picks up either kind of sandstone.[2] The vanilla recipe that crafts end stone bricks from end stone is removed,[3] but the vanilla stonecutter recipe is not, so a stonecutter still turns one end stone into one brown sandstone.

Natural generation

Structures that use end stone bricks in vanilla, such as End cities, are built from brown sandstone, because the block keeps its vanilla ID.

Brown sandstone slabs, stairs and walls are the vanilla end stone brick slab, stairs and wall. They are crafted the vanilla way or in the stonecutter, and two slabs craft back into a block of brown sandstone.

History

1.0 End stone bricks were renamed brown sandstone, and their vanilla recipe was blocked.
Brown sandstone can be crafted back into sandstone.

Trivia

  • Because 4 blocks of sandstone and red sandstone make 4 brown sandstone, and each brown sandstone gives back 4 sandstone, the two recipes together turn 2 sandstone and 2 red sandstone into 16 sandstone.
