Kindling is a block used to cook food without fuel. It replaces the campfire and is the first cooking station a player can build. It cooks every food an oven can except the five oven meals, and it also dries grass and fires clay.

Kindling is crafted from 2 sticks and 2 logs, and always comes out unlit.[1] The vanilla campfire recipe (which used coal or charcoal) is removed.

Breaking

Kindling always drops itself, unlit, instead of charcoal.[2]

Usage

Kindling has to be lit, for example with tinder or a fire starter, before it can cook. Lighting it grants Prometheus be Damned.[3]

Cooking

Up to four items cook at once. Food takes 10 seconds (200 ticks), a third of a vanilla campfire's 30 seconds.[4] It cooks:

The oven meals (green curry, Japanese curry, paneer makhani, pumpkin curry and tonkotsu ramen) can't be cooked on kindling; their stocks cook only in an oven.[6]

It also dries grass and bushes and fires clay balls into bricks:[7]

Firing clay and drying tall grass, a large fern or a bush take 5 seconds, and drying short grass or a fern 10 seconds.[8] Drying grass grants Harvester.

1.12.3 Kindling now cooks everything an oven does: pumpkin curry, popped chorus fruit and dried kelp were added.
