Gravel is a loose block affected by gravity. Matcha Flavoured makes it part of a chain that turns rock into sand without digging up deserts: blast cobblestone into gravel, and gravel into sand. Broken gravel also always drops both flint and dirt.

  • Blasting cobblestone or cobbled deepslate gives gravel (5 seconds).[1]
  • Two dirt and two flint, placed diagonally, make 2 gravel.[2]

This was one of the first changes the developer made. The design video describes needing a lot of sand without tearing up a desert: "I added a recipe that let me blast cobble into gravel and gravel into sand. Really simple, really silly, but it worked. One little change stopped me from demolishing an entire biome."[3]

Natural generation

Gravel generates in the Overworld as in vanilla. The pack removes gravel from Hell's terrain generation.[4]

Drops

Broken without Silk Touch, gravel always drops one dirt and one flint. With Silk Touch it drops itself. In vanilla it drops either gravel or, with a 10% chance, flint.[5]

Because the dirt-and-flint recipe turns 2 dirt and 2 flint back into 2 gravel, breaking gravel and recrafting it loses nothing.

Blasting gravel gives sand (5 seconds).[6] Gravel counts as a path block for the Trailblaze enchantment.[7]

Appearance

The resource pack gives gravel and suspicious gravel new textures, with several variations for plain gravel.[8]
