This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Smelting, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.

Cooking turns raw ingredients into food that heals and grants effects. Matcha Flavoured renames the vanilla cooking blocks and gives each one its own role: the oven (furnace) and kindling (campfire) cook food, while the mud kiln (smoker) fires clay, glass and stone and only chars food. Most complex dishes are then crafted at a crafting table from the cooked ingredients.

All food recipes take 5 seconds (100 ticks) and give 0.35 experience, on every station. The oven meals take 15 seconds (300 ticks). Kindling therefore cooks food much faster than a vanilla campfire (30 seconds), and the oven twice as fast as a vanilla furnace.

The pack removes every vanilla cooking recipe for food (meat, fish, potatoes, kelp) and replaces it with its own, so vanilla cooked food can't be made.

Charring

The mud kiln is not meant for food. Raw meat, raw fish and potatoes put in it come out as charred meat, charred fish and charred potatoes, which heal less than the properly cooked versions (2 ( × 1) instead of 4 ( × 2) for meat, 1 ( × 0.5) instead of 5 ( × 2.5) for a potato) and have no other use. Dough is the exception: the kiln bakes it into naan instead of bread.

Progression

The README's advice for new players is to start with a campfire, a wooden hoe and grass. The stations unlock in this order:

1. Kindling is crafted from 2 sticks and 2 logs and is always placed unlit. It is lit with tinder or a fire starter (Prometheus be Damned).
2. A hoe used on grass yields short grass, and 1 time in 8 wheat grain instead. Cooking grass on kindling dries it (Harvester). Dry grass, straw and mud make packed mud.
3. The mud kiln is crafted from 4 mud bricks, 2 packed mud and a kindling (Ancient Technology). It fires clay balls into bricks.
4. The oven is crafted from 3 iron ingots, 5 blocks of bricks and a kindling (Now You're Cooking). The oven can't smelt ores; that needs a blast furnace.
5. Bricks also make bowls (Manners First), which unlock the stocks for the oven meals.

Recipe unlocks

Recipes appear in the recipe book through hidden advancements in advancement/recipe_unlocks. Each one fires when the player first has a certain item in their inventory and grants the recipes that use it:

• Picking up a raw ingredient unlocks its oven recipe. For example, a pumpkin unlocks baked pumpkin, and carrots unlock steamed carrots, pickled carrots, carrot cupcake and Pad Thai.
• Obtaining a cooked ingredient unlocks the preserves and meals made from it. For example, a baked pumpkin unlocks pumpkin jam and pumpkin empanada.
• Intermediates chain on: wheat grain unlocks flour; flour unlocks dough, bag of flour and cake; dough unlocks bread, naan and seitan; a bowl unlocks all five stocks; each stock unlocks its oven meal.
• A Cooking Recipe unlocks one secret dish.

Campfire recipes are never added to the recipe book, but kindling doesn't use the recipe book, so they work regardless. Unlocks only affect the recipe book: the pack doesn't turn on the limitedCrafting game rule, so any recipe can be crafted by placing its ingredients by hand. Recipes that are never unlocked are the secret recipes.

When a player joins a world whose pack version is newer than the one they last played with, all their recipe unlocks are revoked so that changed recipes are re-learned.

Other cooking recipes

Kindling and the oven also dry plants: grass and ferns become short or tall dry grass, and bushes become dead bushes. Kindling fires clay balls into bricks. The oven cleans mossy cobblestone and mossy stone bricks, dries wet sponges and turns grass blocks into dirt. See each station's page.

History

0.5-alpha	Cooking food on a campfire gives the matching recipe unlocks. The golden carrot recipe unlocks with a gold nugget, and the milk bottle recipe with milk.
0.7-alpha	Dough and bread give the proper recipes.
1.02	Grass drops wheat seeds when broken with a hoe. Campfire and food advancements reworded.
1.03	Clay can be cooked on kindling. Charcoal and glazed terracotta moved to the kiln.
1.10	Tomato, melon, honey and carrot recipes unlock from the raw food. All food except curries cooks faster in the oven. Quartz and amethyst can be kilned. Recipe unlocks are revoked when a player joins with a newer pack version, so changed recipes are learned again.
1.11	Restored the recipes, which had been accidentally deleted in 1.10.
1.12.1-alpha	Cactus can be cooked again. Copper, ancient debris and stone can no longer be smelted in the oven. Cooking, kilning and blasting recipes reorganized.
