Wheat grain is the seed of wheat and the base of flour. It replaces wheat seeds: planting it grows wheat, and 3 grain grind into 1 flour.[1] In the early game it is found by breaking grass with a hoe.
Obtaining
Breaking grass
Short grass broken with a hoe has a 1 in 8 chance to drop wheat grain (Fortune adds to the count, not the chance); otherwise it drops itself. Without a hoe or shears it drops nothing.[2]
Farming
A fully grown wheat crop drops 1 straw and 1 to 4 grain, as vanilla wheat drops seeds. The grain comes from one of two equally likely entries, one increased by Fortune and the other by the Electrum tool intrinsic, so each bonus applies to about half of the harvests. An unripe crop drops 1 grain.[3]
