Wheat grain is the seed of wheat and the base of flour. It replaces wheat seeds: planting it grows wheat, and 3 grain grind into 1 flour.[1] In the early game it is found by breaking grass with a hoe.

Obtaining

Breaking grass

Short grass broken with a hoe has a 1 in 8 chance to drop wheat grain, increased by Fortune; otherwise it drops itself. Without a hoe or shears it drops nothing.[2]

Farming

A fully grown wheat crop drops 1 straw and 0 to 3 grain, with more from Fortune or the Electrum tool intrinsic. An unripe crop drops 1 grain.[3]

Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

Usage

Picking up wheat grain unlocks the flour recipe. Two grain also go into apple cinnamon oatmeal. Wheat grain can be planted and fed to chickens as in vanilla.
