Secret recipes

Secret recipes are recipes that never appear in the recipe book. Matcha Flavoured unlocks almost every recipe through hidden advancements when the player picks up an ingredient (see Cooking), but a few foods are left out on purpose, for the player to discover by experimenting or to learn from a Cooking Recipe. The developer mentions "a few secret foods" in the pack's introduction, and more secret recipes for tools, armor and shields.[1][2]
Because the pack doesn't limit crafting to known recipes, a secret recipe works as soon as its ingredients are placed in the right grid or station.

Secret ingredients
Four ingredients have simple preparations whose recipes are never unlocked. Cooking any of them grants the advancement Hidden Flavors (1 obol).[3]

Picking up crimson or warped fungus only unlocks the red and cyan dye recipes.[4]
Secret meals
Making any of these grants the advancement Wait, you can make that? (2 obols).[5] Most follow the same pattern as the ordinary dishes of their ingredient, so a player who knows how pumpkin jam or carrot cupcakes are made can guess them.

Chorus Mochi is also taught by a Cooking Recipe but doesn't count for the advancement.
Cooking Recipes
Four dishes are taught by a Cooking Recipe, a paper item that unlocks its recipe as soon as it enters the inventory:[6]
- Gnocchi: found in mineshaft chests.
- Sweet Berry Toast: sold by a Novice Cook for 1 obol.
- Warped Stroganoff: sold by an Apprentice Cook for 1 obol.
- Chorus Mochi: sold by a Journeyman Cook for 1 obol.
The Cook also sells the finished sweet berry toast, warped stroganoff and chorus mochi.
Other recipes without an unlock
These recipes also never enter the recipe book, although they are not listed among the secret foods:
- Popped chorus fruit: the chorus fruit unlock advancement grants a recipe ID that doesn't exist (
food/oven/popped_chorus_fruit), while the recipe is stored asfood/crafting/popped_chorus_fruit.[7] - Pupusa: no advancement unlocks it.
- Dried kelp (oven), fried eggs and cooked meat and fish: cooked like their vanilla counterparts, with no unlock.
- Every kindling recipe, which doesn't need one.
- The legacy ramen, a crafting recipe left over from an earlier version.
