Cake is a placeable food. Each slice eaten heals the player instantly and raises their maximum health for 3 minutes.

The pack's recipe uses 2 sweet berries, a milk bottle, 2 sugar, an egg and 3 flour. Obtaining flour unlocks it. The vanilla recipe is removed. Crafting it gives back the milk bottle's glass bottle.

Usage

Food

Cake is placed and eaten a slice at a time, as in vanilla, and only while the food bar isn't full (see Known bugs). When a player eats a slice, an advancement that fires on using a cake gives them Instant Health I and  Health Boost II (4 extra hearts of maximum health) for 3:00. The game checks the block after the slice is eaten, so the last slice, which removes the cake, gives no effects; a slice from a cake with a candle counts, since the block is then a plain cake (see Known bugs). The 1.12.9 release notes list "Cake can sometimes not be eaten" as an expected issue. Instant Health I heals 4 ( × 2), but the item's tooltip shows 4 hearts (8 ( × 4)).

1.12.3	Crafting a cake returns the milk bottle's glass bottle. In 1.12.2 the advancement behind this still used an old recipe ID, so the bottle was lost.
1.12.9 October 31, 2026	Eating a slice is detected when the player uses a cake, instead of by the cake-slice statistic checked each tick, so the last slice of a cake no longer gives effects.
