Mushrooms come in two kinds with different roles in cooking. The red mushroom, called a toadstool in food names, is an ingredient whose intrinsic is  Poison. The brown mushroom has no intrinsic and is the pack's pickling agent: every pickle and several other preserves need one.

Obtaining

Mushrooms are found and farmed as in vanilla. A brown or red mushroom block can be crafted into 1 mushroom.[1]

Shelf mushroom

A shelf mushroom is a block of Minecraft 26.3. In Matcha Flavoured it grows on swamp and poplar trees and drops itself (2 when fully grown). Its only use in the pack is the rabbit stew recipe.[2][3] The language file already names four shelf mushroom foods, "Braised Shelf Mushrooms", "Pickled Shelf Mushrooms", "Shelf Mushroom Kombucha" and "Springy Stroganoff", but no recipe or loot table makes them.[4] The release notes of 1.12.3 for 26.2 also say that shelf mushrooms "can now be found" in swamps, but that release has none.[5]

Usage

Brown mushroom

Brown mushrooms are cooked into braised mushrooms, which make pickled mushrooms, stroganoff and suimono and top mushroom pizza. Raw brown mushrooms are the preservative in pickled carrots, pickled potatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, pickled toadstools, golden pickled carrots, pickled crimson fungus and pickled warped fungus, and are also used in cheese, mead and ramen stock.

Red mushroom

Red mushrooms are cooked into braised toadstools (Poison, 0:30), pickled into pickled toadstools (a splash potion of Poison II, 1:00) and crafted into toadstool stroganoff (Poison, 5:00). These foods poison the player who eats them; the pickle can be thrown at mobs.

History

0.7-alpha Added braised mushrooms, stroganoff, pickled mushrooms, braised toadstools, toadstool stroganoff and pickled toadstools. New mushroom item textures.
1.12.1-alpha Red and brown mushrooms can be crafted from their mushroom blocks.
1.12.6-alpha Shelf mushrooms grow on swamp and poplar trees and can be used in the rabbit stew recipe (first in the 1.12.3 alpha for 26.3). The language file names four shelf mushroom foods that can't be made yet. Braised mushrooms make clear mushroom soup.
