A Papal Outpost is the pack's replacement for the vanilla pillager outpost: a ruined stone watchtower surrounded by graves and small camps, with no pillagers. It gives easy early-game access to a small amount of divine fragments and crystal hearts, as well as potatoes and carrots.[1] Papal Outposts are much more common than Abbeys.
The structure keeps the vanilla ID minecraft:pillager_outpost, so it appears as a pillager outpost in commands such as /locate.[2]
Generation
Papal Outposts generate in the same biomes and with the same spacing as vanilla pillager outposts; the pack does not change the structure set or the biome tag. The structure no longer has a spawn override, so pillagers do not spawn in it.[3] Pillager patrols are also delayed; see Day and night.
A Papal Outpost Map can be bought from the Archaeologist at level 1 for one obol. See Explorer maps.[4]
Structure
The pack replaces the vanilla outpost templates while keeping the vanilla layout: a base plate, a watchtower, and a feature plate on which small features are placed.
Watchtower
The watchtower (15 × 21 × 15) is placed together with an overgrown copy of itself, which uses the outpost_rot processor: only 5% of its blocks are kept, and its magenta glazed terracotta becomes cobweb (30%) or air.[5][6] The tower contains:[7]
- A Zombie monster spawner (see Spawner).
- 3 trapped chests: two with Abbey barracks loot and one with Papal Outpost loot.
- 7 decorated pots with Abbey pot loot.
- 12 suspicious gravel blocks with grave loot.
- 6 brown beds, flower pots and spruce trapdoors.
Feature plate
The feature plate holds 17 suspicious gravel graves (grave loot) and connectors for features.[8] Features are chosen from the pool below. All use the cobwebs processor, which turns magenta glazed terracotta into cobweb (30%) or air.[9]
| Feature | Weight | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| cage1 | 1 | A camp with a campfire, two brown wall banners and a trapped chest with fixed contents: 9 oak planks, 3 sticks, 4 Copper Ingots, 12 raw copper, 2 sturdy leather, 5 estus ash, 18 torches, 1 arrow, 7 tattered leather and 6 bones. |
| cage2 | 3 | A small ruin with an empty barrel. |
| cage_with_allays | 3 | A small ruin. Despite its name, it contains no allays. |
| logs | 3 | Stone and pale moss rubble. |
| tent1 | 3 | Stone and cobblestone slabs. |
| tent2 | 5 | A garden of pumpkins, potatoes and carrots. |
| targets | 3 | Andesite and cobblestone rubble. |
| (empty) | 6 | Nothing. |

Trivia
- The developer hopes to use the outposts "as a way to reverse-engineer how my structures could look in the future".
- The developer's notes list "Polish up papal outpost, give barrel a LT" as future work.
