Day and night

This is the Matcha Flavoured version of Day and night, renamed or changed from vanilla Minecraft.

The day and night cycle in Matcha Flavoured is three times as long as in vanilla Minecraft. A full day lasts 72,000 ticks, 60 minutes of real time, instead of 24,000 ticks (20 minutes). Everything tied to the time of day, such as sky light, monster burning, villager schedules and the moon, is stretched to match.

Mechanics

The pack replaces the Overworld's day timeline with one whose period is 72,000 ticks. Every keyframe is at three times its vanilla tick.[1]

Time marker Tick Vanilla tick Real time into the day
day 3,000 1,000 2:30
noon 18,000 6,000 15:00
night 39,000 13,000 32:30
midnight 54,000 18,000 45:00

These markers are used by commands such as /time set night.

Event Ticks Real time
Full daylight 399–35,601 about 29.3 minutes
Full darkness (sky light at 4/15) 41,010–66,990 about 21.7 minutes
Undead don't burn in sunlight 37,626–70,380 about 27.3 minutes
Eyeblossoms open, creakings active, firefly bushes chirp 37,800–70,203 about 27 minutes

[1]

Other timelines are stretched in the same way:

  • Villager schedules repeat every 72,000 ticks: villagers work from 6,000, meet at 27,000, idle from 33,000 and rest from 36,000.[2]
  • Pillager patrols can only spawn after 360,000 ticks, 5 of the pack's days.[3]
  • The moon has its own 8-day cycle and moves independently of the sun. See Moon.

The sun moves at a steady rate through the whole day, from an angle of 270° at tick 0 to 630° at tick 72,000.[1]

Nights

Nights last longer in real time, and the pack's zombies are fast, so the night is dangerous early in the game. Sleeping speeds time up until morning, and after the Ender Dragon is killed the surface becomes safe.

Trivia

  • The developer said that it's "a shame that in Minecraft, we always end up skipping the night".[4]
