Tattered leather is a common crafting material, the pack's name for the rabbit hide. It replaces rotten flesh as the main drop of zombies, and is used to make leather armor and to craft Sturdy Leather Sturdy Leather, so players can get leather without raising cattle.

Obtaining

Mob loot

Tattered leather is dropped by zombies, drowned, zombie villagers and zombified piglins (only when killed by a player), and by rabbits and sheep. Sheep drop 1–3 tattered leather instead of wool.[1]

As in vanilla, 4 tattered leather make 1 sturdy leather. The pack's leather armor (the Leather Hood, Leather Pauldron, Leather Pants and Leather Boots) is crafted directly from tattered leather.

Repairing

Sturdy leather armor can be repaired with tattered leather.

A fox pelt is the same item with a different name and texture, so it works in all of these recipes.

History

0.4-alpha Tattered leather gives proper recipe unlocks.
1.12.2 Sturdy leather can be repaired with tattered leather.

Trivia

  • In the design video: "Rotten flesh no longer exists. Zombies instead drop tattered leather, an ethical way of sourcing a much-needed item."[3] The rotten flesh item itself is reused as Glow Berry Mash Glow Berry Mash.
