A zombie in Matcha Flavoured is a fast, fragile undead mob. On Normal and Hard it runs much faster than in vanilla Minecraft but has less health, filling the role of a "striker" alongside the slow, heavily armored husk. Zombies drop
Tattered Leather instead of rotten flesh, and often
Raw Estus.
Spawning
Zombies spawn in almost every Overworld biome with weight 100 (vanilla uses 90 or 95), including deserts, where vanilla zombies are rare.[1] As undead, zombies are one of the few mobs that may appear under the open sky before the Ender Dragon is killed; after that they are removed if they appear on the surface. See Spawning.
Zombies also appear from spawners in monster rooms and papal outpost watchtowers. Those zombies drop nothing.
Drops
Loot table minecraft:entities/zombie (source); pools roll 1 time(s). Overrides the vanilla table.
| Item | Stack size | Chance per roll | Chance per table | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 100% | 100% | player kill | |
| 1 | 100% | 100% | player kill, baby | |
| 0–1 | 25.0% | 25.0% | player kill |
All drops require the zombie to be killed by a player, and zombies from the pack's spawners drop nothing.[2] Zombies don't drop the equipment they spawn with.
Compared to vanilla:
Tattered Leather (1–2) replaces rotten flesh (0–2), which no longer exists.- A 50% chance of
Raw Estus (0–1) replaces the rare iron ingot, carrot and potato drops, so about 1 in 4 zombies drops raw estus without Looting. - Zombies riding zombie horses no longer drop red mushrooms.
- As in vanilla, a baby zombie riding a chicken drops the Lava Chicken music disc; this is the "baby" row of the table.
Zombie villagers
Zombie villagers drop
Tattered Leather (1–2) and one roll that gives
Raw Estus (0–1) with a 10 in 11 chance or an
Obol with a 1 in 11 chance, all only when killed by a player.[3]
Loot table minecraft:entities/zombie_villager (source); pools roll 1 time(s). Overrides the vanilla table.
| Item | Stack size | Chance per roll | Chance per table | Notes |

| 1–2 | 100% | 100% | player kill | |
| 1 | 100% | 100% | player kill, baby | |
| 0–1 | 45.5% | 45.5% | player kill | |
| 1 | 9.09% | 9.09% | player kill |
Behavior
Zombies are undead, so they are hurt by warding and burned by warding stones and electrum. Undead wearing a copper armor piece are immune to warding, except from warding stones and the electrum set bonus.
When a zombie first appears, the pack changes its attributes according to the difficulty. On Normal and Hard it can step up full blocks without jumping, and on Hard it also jumps higher and hits harder.[4][5] Only adult zombies of the plain zombie type are made fast; husks, drowned, zombie villagers and baby zombies are handled separately.

Trivia
- In the design video: "Zombies are fast now, like really fast. It's actually pretty scary."[8] Tattered leather was chosen as "an ethical way of sourcing a much-needed item".[9]
- The 1.10 release notes call the zombie nerf the developer's "most controversial change". Zombies had filled "both the tank and striker niche", so the tank role was given to husks.[10]
- The release notes for 1.12.1-alpha say obols no longer drop from undead, but zombie villagers can still drop them.
