The Wither in Matcha Flavoured can only be summoned on the surface of the Overworld, in the open and at sea level or above. It drops an Amalgamated Pith Amalgamated Pith (the pack's name for the nether star), and the Wither effect it inflicts can permanently cost players maximum health.

Summoning

The Wither is built as in vanilla. Shortly after it is summoned, the pack checks where it is.[1][2] The summon is invalid if any of these is true:[3]

  • it can't see the sky;
  • it is below Y=63;
  • it is in Hell or the End.

About a second later, an invalid Wither that is still charging up after being summoned is teleported far below the world and killed, so its amalgamated pith falls into the void. Only a newly summoned Wither is checked, so one that flies somewhere invalid later is left alone. Players within 100 blocks see "The Wither can only be summoned on the surface of the overworld".[4] Red particles and the Wither's hurt sound mark the spot, and the three wither skeleton skulls used to build it drop there as a refund; the soul sand is lost.[5]

Drops

The Wither drops one Amalgamated Pith Amalgamated Pith, the vanilla nether star renamed. Amalgamated pith can be broken down into Pith Pith.

Behavior

The Wither's attacks apply the Wither effect. Except on Easy, a player who stays withered for 9 seconds (6 on Hard, longer in shakudo armor) loses 1 heart of maximum health (2 on Hard). See Wither effect.

The Wither is undead and a target of warding. Warding equipment attacks copper-armored mobs first, then the Wither, then the nearest other undead mob.

1.12.2 Withers can only be summoned on the surface of the Overworld. The Wither effect takes hearts. Warding prioritizes the Wither after copper-armored mobs.

October 31, 2026 		An invalid Wither is now killed below the world, so its amalgamated pith is lost, and its three skulls are refunded. Before, the pack deleted dropped single amalgamated piths, but only while some player stood where a Wither couldn't be summoned. Only newly summoned Withers are checked, and only players within 100 blocks see the warning.

Trivia

  • The 1.10 release notes explain the End ban: "Killing withers under the nest is boring".[6]
  • The developer's plans describe a reworked Wither fight in which one attack removes a heart "WITHOUT killing them", like the Ganon fight in Tears of the Kingdom, and considered either a special structure or a surface-and-height requirement for summoning. The height requirement is what the pack uses.[7]
  • In the design video: "The first time you kill the Ender Dragon, you'll be granted a divine favor. Of course, killing Withers will do the same."[8]
