Ender Dragon
| Type | Boss mob |
|---|---|
| Health points | Vanilla |
| Spawn | The End |
| Drops |
The Ender Dragon in Matcha Flavoured is fought as in vanilla, but killing it changes the Overworld: evil is "banished from the surface", and from then on the common hostile mobs can no longer spawn above sea level or under the open sky. Each player's first kill also drops a
Divine Favor.
Rewards
The first time each player kills the dragon, they earn the challenge advancement Iconoclast ("Defile the Dead God's Dream"). The advancement's reward:[1][2]
- drops a
Divine Favor at X=0, Y=100, Z=0 in the End, above the exit portal; the item never despawns; - tells every player "Evil has been banished from the surface.";
- turns on the pack's safe-surface spawning for the whole world (see Surface);
- gives 3
obols.
The divine favor is given once per player, so every player on a server can earn one by joining a dragon kill. The safe surface only needs to be turned on once.
Surface after the dragon
After the first kill, zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders and the pack's other common hostile mobs are removed as soon as they appear in the Overworld if they can see the sky or are at Y=63 or above, except inside trial chambers and abbeys. Caves below sea level keep their normal spawning.
History
| 0.5-alpha | Fixed the dragon-kill advancement. Killing the dragon banishes evil even if the player who killed it isn't on the server; each new player who kills the dragon for the first time creates a new divine favor. Fixed a major performance problem in the End. |
|---|---|
| 0.6-alpha | After the dragon is killed, no hostile mobs spawn above sea level or in open areas. |
| 1.10 | Beating the Ender Dragon raises the difficulty. |
| 1.12.1-alpha | Killing the dragon no longer changes the difficulty on Normal. |
| 1.12.2 | Fixed massive lag spikes after the dragon is killed. |
Trivia
- The pack treats the dragon as a god. In the design video: "You did what you were supposed to. You killed a god. You freed the end from her reign. You freed the world from her control. You deserve a reward. A big one."[3]
- The flavor messages of the minimum hearts system speak of a "Dead God", matching the advancement's "Dead God's Dream".
