A fox pelt is dropped by foxes. It comes in two textures, red and snowy, to match the fox it came from. It is the same item as  Tattered Leather (a rabbit hide) with its own name and look, so it can be used anywhere tattered leather is.

Every fox drops one fox pelt when it dies: red foxes drop the red pelt and snow foxes the snowy pelt. Foxes also drop 1 raw flesh (cooked if the fox was burning), plus 0–1 per level of Looting. In vanilla, foxes drop nothing but their held item.

Usage

Recipes that take tattered leather accept fox pelts, because recipes check the item type, not its name. See tattered leather#Usage.

History

1.12.1-alpha	Snowy foxes drop their own snowy pelt instead of the red one.

Trivia

• The loot table gives the pelts the item models fox_pelt and fox_pelt_snowy without a namespace, which the game reads as minecraft:fox_pelt. The resource pack defines the models under the matcha namespace, so the pelt's texture may not display correctly.
