The warding sword is an iron sword with a Nazar set into it. It carries Warding 1, so while held it slows nearby undead and burns the closest one.

Unlike the Silver Sword and Warding Shield, the warding sword needs no smithing template, only an iron sword and a nazar. Enchantments already on the iron sword are kept: the sword's warding is stored on the result and merged with the old enchantments once it enters the inventory (see intrinsic enchantments).[1][2]

Usage

Weapon

The warding sword deals 5 (Heart × 2.5) of damage with an attack speed of 1.6 and has 500 durability.[3]

Warding

Held in either hand, the sword gives Warding 1: every second it gives undead within 8 blocks Slowness II and deals 1 (Half heart × 0.5) of armor-ignoring damage to the nearest one within 3 blocks. It never damages the Wither on its own.[4] Its warding adds to the warding of the item in the other hand, up to Warding 3: with a Nazar or a second Warding 2 item in the off hand the player has Warding 3, and with a Warding Shield Warding 2. Because warding is exclusive with other weapon intrinsics, a warding sword can't also carry a shakudo or adamant weapon intrinsic.

Repairing

The warding sword can only be repaired with a Nazar or a block of lapis lazuli.

Advancements

Smithing the warding sword grants Fae-Slayer ("Affix a Nazar to an Iron Sword in a Smithing Table") in the Tutorial tab. It follows Apotropaic Jewellery and leads to Sabbatarian.[5]

1.02 The warding weapons advancement was reworded to make it clearer.
1.03 The warding sword was nerfed.
1.12.1-alpha The warding sword can now only be repaired with Nazars or lapis.
1.12.2 Warding from held items now stacks.
