Malachite is a green decorative stone. It replaces prismarine, and instead of coming from ocean monuments it is crafted from calcite and raw copper, which makes the whole prismarine family of blocks available early in the game. Malachite has the same variants as vanilla prismarine: malachite bricks, dark malachite and the malachite lantern, plus slabs, stairs and a wall.

matcha:crafting/prismarine_from_prismarine_slabs

Two calcite and two raw copper, placed diagonally, make 4 malachite.[1] The recipe unlocks when the player picks up calcite.[2] The vanilla recipes for prismarine, prismarine bricks, dark prismarine and sea lanterns, which use prismarine shards and crystals, are removed.[3] Prismarine shards and crystals are renamed raw silver and silver bullion in the pack.

The design video lists it among the recipe changes meant to be "kinder for players": "Prismarine is craftable from copper."[4]

Trading

The Mason sells a bulk block of malachite for 1 obol at the journeyman level; using it unpacks 64 malachite. The item's name, item.kleispack.trade.bulk_prismarine, has no English translation, so the game shows the raw key.[5] See Bulk blocks.

Natural generation

Blocks placed in ocean monuments keep their vanilla IDs, so monuments are built from malachite, malachite bricks, dark malachite and malachite lanterns.

Malachite Lantern

The malachite lantern replaces the sea lantern. Two malachite and two estus ash, placed diagonally, make 2 lanterns.[8] Broken with any tool, it always drops itself, where a vanilla sea lantern needs Silk Touch and otherwise drops prismarine crystals.[9] It is also in the pickaxe's mineable list, so pickaxes break it quickly.[10]

Slabs, stairs and wall

Malachite, malachite bricks and dark malachite each have a slab and stairs, and malachite also has a wall. They are made the vanilla way or in the stonecutter. Two slabs of any of the three can be crafted back into the full block.

1.01 Dark malachite stairs can be crafted in a crafting table.
