A striped perch is a common ⭐☆☆☆ fish caught by fishing in cool freshwater. It cooks into cooked fish, and a Fisherman buys 12 of them for an Obol.

Obtaining

Fishing

The striped perch can be caught in this table.[1] The chances are per cast of a fishing rod and include the junk and treasure rolls.

Climate Biomes Weight Per catch (open water) Per catch (other water) Per catch (Luck of the Sea III)
Cool freshwater Taiga, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Dark Forest, Meadow, Stony Shore, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Windswept Hills, Windswept Forest, Windswept Gravelly Hills, Stony Peaks 15 of 42 30.36% 31.95% 31.43%

The same tables are also rolled by the drops of guardians and elder guardians, using the biome where the mob dies.

Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

Mob drops

Source Stack size Chance Notes
Elder guardian 1 73.4% only in cool freshwater biomes
Guardian 1 23.8% only in cool freshwater biomes

Fishing

Source Stack size Chance Notes
Fishing 1 30.4% only in cool freshwater biomes

Usage

Food

Raw fish can be eaten, but it heals nothing: Matcha Flavoured removes hunger, and food only heals through the hearts shown on its tooltip. Cooked, it becomes cooked fish, which heals 4 ( × 2).

The recipes match any minecraft:cod, so every small fish gives the same result.[2] A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.

Crafting ingredient

Because it is a cod underneath, it can be used wherever a raw cod is accepted: the green curry stock recipe takes any cod or salmon.[3]

Trading

The Fisherman buys 12 caught striped perch for 1 Obol once he reaches Apprentice level. Only fish with the ⭐☆☆☆ rarity line, which the fishing loot tables add, are accepted.[4]

Angler's Almanac

The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the striped perch under Cool Freshwater (listed chance 35.7%), unlocked by catching one after the player has obtained the almanac.[5] Its description reads:

A striped swimmer dressed for an underwater gala that nobody else was invited to.

Advancements

  • No More Fish in the Sea – catch every fish, including this one. Rewards 10 Obols.
  • Fishmonger – sell caught fish to a Fisherman.

History

0.5-alpha Fishing overhauled into climates with star-rated fish.
1.10 The Fisherman now buys 12 instead of 24.
1.12.1-alpha Added an Angler's Almanac entry and a catch sound.

The item format changed; fish caught before this version can no longer be sold. Can now be caught in Old Growth Spruce Taiga.

Trivia

  • The fish is a minecraft:cod item with the name, texture (matcha:striped_perch) and rarity line set by its loot table.[6]
