A flounder is a rare ⭐⭐⭐☆ fish caught by fishing in brackish water and warm saltwater. It cooks into cooked large fish, and a Fisherman buys 4 of them for an Obol.

The flounder can be caught in these climate tables.[1] [2] The chances are per cast of a fishing rod and include the junk and treasure rolls.

The same tables are also rolled by the fisherman's house chest in villages and by the elder guardian's drops, using the biome at the chest or where the elder guardian dies.

Usage
Food
Raw fish can be eaten, but it heals nothing: Matcha Flavoured removes hunger, and food only heals through the hearts shown on its tooltip. Cooked, it becomes cooked large fish, which heals 5 (
× 2.5).
Cooking
The recipes match any minecraft:salmon, so every large fish gives the same result.[3] A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.
Crafting ingredient
Because it is a salmon underneath, it can be used wherever a raw salmon is accepted: the green curry stock recipe takes any cod or salmon.[4]
Trading
The Fisherman buys 4 caught flounder for 1 Obol once he reaches Expert level. Only fish caught by fishing (with the ⭐⭐⭐☆ line) are accepted.[5]

Angler's Almanac
The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the flounder under Warm Saltwater (listed chance 7.1%) and Brackish (listed chance 7.1%), unlocked by catching one while the almanac tab is open.[6] Its description reads:
A fish that grows up to swim sideways and somehow ends up with both eyes on the same side. Problem solved apparently.
