A flounder is a rare ⭐⭐⭐☆ fish caught by fishing in brackish water and warm saltwater. It cooks into cooked large fish, and a Fisherman buys 4 of them for an Obol.

The flounder can be caught in these climate tables.[1] [2] The chances are per cast of a fishing rod and include the junk and treasure rolls.

The same tables are also rolled by the drops of guardians and elder guardians, using the biome where the mob dies.

Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

Usage

Food

Raw fish can be eaten, but it heals nothing: Matcha Flavoured removes hunger, and food only heals through the hearts shown on its tooltip. Cooked, it becomes cooked large fish, which heals 5 ( × 2.5).

The recipes match any minecraft:salmon, so every large fish gives the same result.[3] A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.

Crafting ingredient

Because it is a salmon underneath, it can be used wherever a raw salmon is accepted: the green curry stock recipe takes any cod or salmon.[4]

Trading

The Fisherman buys 4 caught flounder for 1 Obol once he reaches Expert level. Only fish with the ⭐⭐⭐☆ rarity line, which the fishing loot tables add, are accepted.[5]

Angler's Almanac

The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the flounder under Warm Saltwater (listed chance 7.1%) and Brackish (listed chance 7.1%), unlocked by catching one after the player has obtained the almanac.[6] Its description reads:

A fish that grows up to swim sideways and somehow ends up with both eyes on the same side. Problem solved apparently.

  • Fishmonger – sell caught fish to a Fisherman.

0.5-alpha Fishing overhauled into climates with star-rated fish.
1.10 The Fisherman now buys 4 instead of 8.
1.12.1-alpha Added an Angler's Almanac entry and a catch sound.

The item format changed; fish caught before this version can no longer be sold.

1.12.2 The Warm Saltwater Angler's Almanac entry can be unlocked. In 1.12.1-alpha every Warm Saltwater entry required an almanac root that didn't exist.[7]

Trivia

  • The fish is a minecraft:salmon item with the name, texture (matcha:flounder) and rarity line set by its loot table.[8]
