A creaking fish is a rare ⭐⭐⭐☆ fish caught by fishing in the Pale Garden biome. It cooks into cooked fish, and a Fisherman buys 2 of them for an Obol.

The creaking fish can be caught in this table.[1] The chances are per cast of a fishing rod and include the junk and treasure rolls.

The same tables are also rolled by the drops of guardians and elder guardians, using the biome where the mob dies.

Chance is the probability that a single chest, mob or catch yields at least one, assuming no Looting, Luck or Fortune.

Usage

Food

Raw fish can be eaten, but it heals nothing: Matcha Flavoured removes hunger, and food only heals through the hearts shown on its tooltip. Cooked, it becomes cooked fish, which heals 4 ( × 2).

The recipes match any minecraft:cod, so every small fish gives the same result.[2] A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.

Crafting ingredient

Because it is a cod underneath, it can be used wherever a raw cod is accepted: the green curry stock recipe takes any cod or salmon.[3]

Trading

The Fisherman buys 2 caught creaking fish for 1 Obol once he reaches Master level. Only fish with the ⭐⭐⭐☆ rarity line, which the fishing loot tables add, are accepted.[4]

Angler's Almanac

The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the creaking fish under Pale Garden (listed chance 25%), unlocked by catching one after the player has obtained the almanac.[5] Its description reads:

A pale fish from the Pale Garden that looks like it hasn't seen sunlight since the beginning of time.

  • No More Fish in the Sea – catch every fish, including this one. Rewards 10 Obols.
  • Fishmonger – sell caught fish to a Fisherman.

0.5-alpha Fishing overhauled into climates with star-rated fish.
1.10 Buffed, since lakes don't generate in its biome.
1.12.1-alpha Added an Angler's Almanac entry and a catch sound.

The item format changed; fish caught before this version can no longer be sold.

Trivia

  • The fish is a minecraft:cod item with the name, texture (matcha:pale_fish) and rarity line set by its loot table.[6]
  • Its internal ID is pale_fish. It is the only ⭐⭐⭐☆ fish that plays the ⭐⭐⭐⭐ catch sound, and the Fisherman only buys it at Master level, 2 for an Obol.[7]
  • The almanac lists its chance as 25%, but its actual share of the Pale Garden table is 17.95%.
